Point Pleasant Beach Shade Tree Commission
Minutes

Present: Anne Lightburn, Peter Ritchings, Elaine Hennessy and former member Clem Bremer
Absent: Peter Renner and Councilman Vogel

Anne Lightburn called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. Minutes from the September 4th meeting were approved as submitted.

To date, no meeting has been scheduled by Chris Riehl to discuss the issue of non-compliance by Brave New Word to replant trees. Anne will continue to contact Mayor Reid on this issue.

To date, Clem has not been able to schedule a meeting with Father Bob at St. Peters to discuss tree replacement. He will try to schedule.

There was a general discussion on the borough’s ordinances to protect trees. In viewing other towns, the commission felt there might be governing willingness to approve an ordinance, such as Spring Lake has, to prevent clear cutting, particularly under knock down situations. Anne will send a link to the spring Lake Ordinance for commission review and talk to Mayor Reid to see his feeling on the issue. One helpful step would be for the Planning Board to notify both the Shade Tree Commission and Environmental Commission when knock down and rebuilding plans are presented. Pete Ritchings will check with Karen Mills to expand notification, if appropriate, to the two commissions.

There was a discussion regarding a tree removal on Bay Ave. across from the high school and the status of several pear trees on Richmond Ave. The commission felt it appropriate to wait for next spring to determine if these trees are viable.

Elaine Hennessy will contact the County Shade Tree Commission to prune and remove dead trees on Broadway.

Meeting adjourned 8:00 pm
