Borough of Point Pleasant Beach Shade Tree Commission Minutes

Anne Lightburn called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. Minutes from January 8 and February 12, 2018 approved as submitted
Anne reported on the two memorial trees removed by the contractor dredging Little Silver Lake. Anne will draft commission’s request to have those replaced.
Commission approved recommendations for two trees to be planted at 401 Washington by Dean Esposito. Anne will send memo.
Peter Ritchings will follow-up on the Liberty Elm correspondence to determine if PPB should participate.
Anne reported on the replanting proposal for the River Ave. triangle. An October Glory memorial tree for Marie Pfister has been selected by the Beautification Committee. They will fund the tree and planting. Screening trees and shrubs will be funded by resident donations.
Hazard tree letters to residents have been approved by Elaine Petrillo. Commission will send as needed to property owners.
Clem reported on his discussion with Rich Renstra, County Forester. While the county has no financial support for replanting recently removed trees on Broadway, Clem suggested that the county could be approached to help in other ways. They have a schedule C program.
The commission discussed the need to make ordinance recommendations as a single packet to include clear cutting and street tree requirement for acquiring a CO when home is sold. Peter Ritchings will work on the clear cutting and damaging pruning and Peter Renner on the CO requirements. The packet will be first discussed with liaison Vogel.
The commission discussed several ideas for conducting a street tree inventory, without resolution. There will be grant opportunity for consultant work.
Elaine will contact Antrim to get the date and time for their Arbor Day celebration. She will also work with Elaine Petrillo to discuss a replacement tree at 213 Harvard.
Anne agreed to follow-up on how to transfer forfeited bond money to Shade Tree for replanting projects.
