Point Pleasant Beach Environmental Shade Tree Commission
Wednesday June 30 (July meeting date due to 4th of July), 2022 Meeting Minutes
Meeting Attendees: Anne Lightburn, Mary Ellin Mallazzo, Dave Smith, and Louise Stillufsen
Absent: Dennis Mallazzo, Peter Renner, Pete Ritchings and Caryn Byrnes, liaison

Anne opened the meeting at 7:00 pm. The June 6th meeting minutes were approved as submitted.
MJ reported that JCP&L are not moving forward with any significant landscaping but has planted some flowers in front of their office on New Jersey Avenue. She will continue to try to work with the new manager responsible to see if they could plant some trees to screen the fence and barbed wire.
MJ share information from the Hadenfield memorial tree program, she will use some of their ideas for a PPB program. Anne finally received the sample paver. For the memorial program the paver engraving company only wants to deal with the town.
The commission voted to participate the September 17th Seafood Festival at the Environmental Commission booth.
Anne brought up the idea of planting trees behind the stadium bleachers and/or creating a memorial street tree walk at Antrim School. The commission like the idea and Dave Smith brought up the fact that some of the area is used for shot put practice. The commission will evaluate the property to come up with some ideas that Mary Ellin can take to the Superintendent.
For memorializing the Peace Tree the commission likes s the idea of a boulder with a brass plaque. Anne will give to Caryn for Chris Riehl’s input.
Mary Ellin reported that Woodhaven is a dead issue for planting screening along their fence line on the residential street.
The commission voted to recommend amending to the town ordinances for unkempt property to include hazardous trees that require either pruning or removal and replacement.
Anne discussed the notion of creating a “Do Not Plant List” for commonly planted invasive plants in PPB. Anne will discuss with Clem to see if he would create a “Do Not Plant” list with substitute planting recommendations for the same look or feature as the invasive.
The commission discussed the need for new construction to require a street tree for getting a Certificate of Occupancy.
