Instructors costs were $500.00. There were five Tuesdays in May.

Our current balance is $13,256.70.

Joan asked Doug if she can get a statement from Chris Riehl so she can reconcile our account.  Doug will ask that all bills go directly to Joan including those from the Zumba and Yoga instructors.

Doug is not sure if we received the funds requested from the Fisher Fund.  He will ask Chris Riehl.

COUNCIL LIASON REPORTS

Doug Vitale

Doug reported that the funds to pay for the canvas bags and Christmas tree ornaments, to be sold at the Seafood Fest, does not have to be approved by the Town Council because it goes through the Endowment fund.  Joan will arrange for a check to be given to Tracy for the bags and Robyn for the ornaments.

Doug stated that the Arts Committee is looking for starfish and shells to decorate the downtown tree.

Councilwoman Byrnes was absent.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL

Joan Clune

The event will be held on July 11th from 12:30-2:30pm. Joan secured the firehouse use with Ira.  Mary Ann will check with Nikki, the yoga instructor, to see if Chair yoga can be moved to her studio or another location.  We have a flyer which has been approved.  Theresa will ask Dino to provide the entertainment and will get approval to post the flyers downtown.  Maryjane will distribute the flyer to local churches and will send an email to Spring tea attendees and will handle reservations for the Social.

PNC CONCERT

Doug reported that Caryn is the lead.  The rescheduled date is July 13th at 7:30pm.  Caryn has 100 tickets. The question was raised by several committee members as to who is paying for the buses which Caryn has been advertising as free transportation.  Doesn’t the committee have to vote on it if we are paying?  Doug texted Chris Riehl.  The Board of education is donating the buses and the drivers.

ASK THE EXPERTS

Doug reported that the event will be moved to the Fall.  He will work with Loretta and Jessica and the Firehouse to secure a date.

OLD BUSINESS

Luann asked “ what happened to Downtown Senior Shopping Day” in June.  Tracy sent an email to the Chamber.  Tracy felt that the Chamber wasn’t that interested since it was not their event.  The whole thing fell by the wayside.  Luann said, let’s do it in the Fall, either November or December.  She will be the lead and create a flyer.  Theresa and Tracy will help.

AARP Grant- Doug is waiting to get a confirmed date to meet with their representative.  Kristin O’Rourke, tracy, and Joanna will help Doug with the paperwork.  June and Theresa worked on this project in the past.  It is a very involved application.

Tracy suggested that we set up a bench project for seniors perhaps in Pleasure Park or near one of the lakes. June said there is a senior circle of benches in Pleasure Park, near St. Peter’s, that needs new benches.  Doug said that the town has a memorial bench project going on now but perhaps this could be part of our AARP project.

NEW BUSINESS

Luann feels that we need to advertise our events and businesses more.

Doug reported that the town is close to procuring an electric sign, outside of Gold Fever, with a  touch screen and all town committees and events will be listed.

Maryjane will create a calendar of our events and have it ready for the Ice Cream Social to be distributed to the attendees.  She will also call Loretta to secure a date for Bingo at the Elks in August.

Theresa feels that we need a membership drive. We should put it on our Facebook page and advertise it in the Ocean Star. Rich suggested that we have the Ocean Star write an article on our committee.  Luann will talk to Allison, the Editor of the paper.

Tracy offered to call the list of members we have.

A suggestion was made that we reach out to high school students to join our committee. This could help fulfill their community service hours.  We should tap into the Key Club and Honor Society.

Joanna suggested that some of the students may be interested in doing an oral history project with the seniors and Doug again brought up the IT assistance.

Motion to adjourn by Joanna.

Seconded by Joan.

Meeting adjourned at 8:20PM

Our next meeting will be Monday, July 17, 2023.
