Golden Gulls Meeting   Feb 21st   7pm

  1. January Meeting Minutes voted on and approved
  2. Question asked -Can the attendees/committee members could get a copy of the January Minutes before the meeting so they can review to approve. It was mentioned the other committees do this. Caryn said she would find out and get back to us.
  3. March 12th the Rec Committee will be holding the Shamrock Festival in town. They would like all committees to get involved in supporting and volunteering to help the day of. June will send out a request email to our committee members for a few volunteers. We do not know what time this is being held in town yet.
  4. March 15th we have the firehouse booked for our Patrick’s Day event. Caryn will be the lead and Tracey her assistant. It will run from 12:30 to 3pm and it will be a Paint Party with Maryellen S volunteering her time and most of the materials/easels/paints, with us purchasing just the canvasses. Caryn will give an exact number of people who can RSVP to do the painting part of the day and we will be serving Some sort of Cornedbeef and cabbage/maybe potatoes/tea/coffee/Irish Soda Bread. Tracy will be speaking with Joe Leone to see if they could prepare or donate their version, which is a cornedbeef roll up with the cabbage inside. This event is 3 weeks away so word needs to get out fast. Once Caryn and Tracy give the ok, June will send out an email to all of our Seniors with RSVP for the painting session. You do not have to paint to attend. We did not discuss if we will have a donation/entry fee or not.
  5. Caryn discussed her Chair Yoga idea as mentioned at previous meetings and she said we would be able to use the room where we have our meeting, 1x a week for this event. This would be an ongoing weekly event. It was agreed that we need to get on a regular schedule for the Seniors with 2 days a mth. The same days every month as to when we will hold events. One day may be at the Boro Hall room. 1 day may be at the firehouse but a set schedule is needed so Seniors can plan Doctors appts etc. Caryn will be arranging the Chair Yoga and we will all help her to support/advertise and attend.
  6. Treasurer Report-we are doing well. June and her team did a fabulous job fundraising. We have the bus prepaid for the trip to the Casino. We will be looking into rearranging this soon. Not sure who will be arranging this from our team??? We have a few expenses coming up from the Fashion Show and a large one once the ICE Project gets approved and launched. Caryn will check to see if we need to do anything else regarding our Quarterly fundraising project. She will report back to us if there are any other guidelines we need to follow.
  7. SPECTRUM Technology Project with the Antrim SchoolJohn Dosch and Steve Ruddy from Antrim have been moving along with this project. The town council has approved it. It will consist of workshops where the students work 1:1 with the Seniors in areas of technology that they have requested via surveys etc. Set up email on phone, voicemail, setting up and using the Internet. Steve is waiting to get final OK from the School. Antrim School has a technology club full of students excited to be a part of this project.
  8. ICE Project (In Case Of An Emergency) update-June showed us the packet that we all agreed would work best. It contains a wallet card of emergency information (this card is being donated so no cost to us), a window decal and a piece of paper to complete all the individuals contact information, meds etc. This paper is a word document and can be updated at any time. WE ARE WAITING COUNCIL APPROVAL TO LAUNCH THIS PROJECT AND CARYN IS SUBMITTING THE PAPERWORK TO GET IT ON THE MARCH 1 COUNCIL MEETING AGENDA. The town wellness fund was unable to donate to our cost and told us to fundraise, so we have been doing this. The Police Dept. is also not able to donate to this cost. The total cost is about $4,500.  We will launch this program and then it will be handed off to the town/police/fire/first aid depts. We hope to do launch this via personal distribution to our Seniors but that will all be planned ounce we have approval. We may even have a Senior day where they can come pick up their packet and get assistance completing their information sheet. It was brought up that somehow the Seniors information can be linked, with approval from the individual, to the Fire and Police Dept. This will be a project for the future. It was also suggested that the availability and launch of this program must be announced at the local churches.  Once approved, materials are ordered, we will have a group meeting to assemble the packets.

  1. AARP Grant Submission update-June gave an overview of how the process works. It was agreed that our submission should focus on the ICE Project, and The Bulletin Board at the Inlet.Since the submission is only a month away and we have been working on this for months, we are going to submit this on our own. We are glad to work with other committees on grant submission in the future but there is just not enough time to work as a group submission this year. Each Committee in a town can do their own submission and Caryn agreed to explain this to the other committees that were interested in joining our AARP Grant Submission. Also, if any other committee decides to submit their own Grant approval and would like guidance, we are glad to help!! It was brought up that getting more of the Beach Karts/wheelchairs would be a fantastic project for our AARP submission at sometime. Another area of town that seems underutilized is the Band Shell. We spoke about possibilities of using this area of town.

  1. We asked for activity suggestions we could plan in the summer. Bingo is a definite but the application has to be submitted at least 30 days ahead of time to the State Gaming Commission even if it is basket prizes and not monetary.
  2. Friday May 6th is our first Friday. It was agreed to keep the same theme as last time. Now and Then. Music?

  1. March 27th from 2-4pm at the Firehouse their will be a Town Committee OPEN HOUSE where the public is invited to learn about and join our committees. We need volunteers for this. June will put out an email.
