Our account balance is $10,616.00

COUNCIL LIASON REPORT:

Doug Vitale announced that Councilwoman Caryn Byrnes has resigned from the committee.

Doug is our sole liaison.

Caryn took the Zumba and Yoga activity with her.  It will be run through the town and is no longer a Golden Gulls event.

Doug announced that he is working on plans to redo the bandshell in town and will give us an update at the next meeting.

A few proposed ideas are a retractable movie screen, a better sound system, and an updated mural.  He is asking for input from all committees in town as to what they would like to see in this space.

The digital signboard which will be located at the corner of Arnold and River Avenues is close to completion.  Events from all committees in town can be listed. The cost is $10,000 paid by the town and it should be ready to go by the end of the year.

LUNCHEON/MOVIE AFTERNOON:

The event will be held tomorrow. We have 30 attendees signed up so far. The committee will meet at 10:45 to begin setup.

ASK THE EXPERTS:

The tentative date is September 25th. Joan gave an update on Firehouse use.  Since the program will start at 5:00pm we will need to pay for the use of the Firehouse at this time.  The fee will be $150.

Motion made by Joan to pay for the firehouse use.

Seconded by Mary Ann.

All were in favor.

Joan reported that going forward we will have to pay for the use of the firehouse and will speak to Ira, Firehouse #2 Chief in charge of rentals, about availability.

We will also look into moving our events to Firehouse #1 to avoid conflicts with scheduling.

Doug will speak to Chris Riehl about the firehouse use and cost.

The October 10th event will be an issue because of early setup time being needed and conflicting with Zumba/Yoga.

Tracey said that we may have to pass the cost of renting a room on to the attendees.

SEAFOOD FESTIVAL:

The tote bags will be sold for $15 and the ornaments for $10.

Tracey asked that she and Robyn would like $200 each for startup money.  Joan will get the money and give it to them. No checks, no Venmo, no PayPal will be accepted for the items.  John Palang will make a sign to display listing the items for sale and prices.  Greg will get balloons for the table.  Maryjane will give Tracey a list of upcoming Golden Gull events to distribute and we will have a sign up sheet for interested future committee and senior members.

OCTOBER 10th ITALIAN LUNCHEON:

June is the lead for this event.  October 10th is the tentative date. June has a menu planned and will reach out to those who volunteered.  Joe Leone will be our guest.

BINGO:

Doug reported that Caryn has resigned from the Endowment Committee. The Endowment Find has three people on it and one must sign and be present at an event they have signed a license for, such as Bingo.  Doug has asked the Mayor to put him on the committee because he is able to attend most Recreation and Golden Gull events.  Getting a Bingo license is an issue and the one the town had has lapsed. Cornelia suggested that we hold off on trying to have a Bingo event until January as Doug as Mayor will then be on the Endowment Fund.

Greg and Mary Ann will lead a Bingo event in January.

NOVEMBER:

November 16th is our Senior Downtown shopping day.  Luann has flyer approval from the town.

June suggested an Arts and Craft event in November perhaps seashell decoupage.  We will table this idea until the November meeting.

NEW MEMBER OUTREACH:

Maryjane and Doug will work on a flyer, similar to the one the Recreation Committee has, and we will have a sign up sheet at the Seafood Festival table.

NEW BUSINESS:

Mary Ann reported that she went, as a resident,to the Non-Residents meeting last Saturday. She met Alex from Jenkinson’s who would like to work with our committee on events for the seniors next summer.  The Oldies Concert series was a big success this year.  Mary Ann agreed to be our contact person to Alex going forward to plan something for next summer.

Greg represented the Golden Gulls at the Non-Resident meeting.

The committee thanked Greg for speaking on our behalf.

Doug reported that the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office put out a scam alert for seniors.  Doug offered to put on a presentation for us whenever we would like one.  Perhaps it can be part of our Ask The Experts panel.

OLD BUSINESS:

Maryjane sent pictures to the Fisher Family from the Ice Cream Social along with a note of thanks.

Theresa thanked Hoffman’s for the donation of the ice cream.

Mary Ann asked if we would be pursuing the idea of IT classes for seniors.

Doug will look into this when school resumes in September.

Motion to adjourn by John at 8:25PM.

Second by Tracey.

All were in favor.

The next meeting will be September 18,2023.
