TREASURER”S REPORT: Joan Clune

Zumba collected $370 for the month of March.

Instructors cost was $400.

Rental of Firehouse $120.

Caryn stated that the Fire department will not bill us for October, November, and December of 2022.  We will be billed for January, February, and march of this year.  Chris Riehl wants us to only pay $100 per month, not $120.  Negotiations between Caryn and the Fire Department regarding this issue are ongoing.

John Palang expressed concern that if we are not breaking even on Zumba and we continue to lose money at this rate it could amount to $2000 per year and asked how many participants are non Beach residents,

Tracey is not in favor of limiting or charging more of a fee to out of town residents at our events.  We are still trying to grow attendance at activities.

Doug stated that the recreation Committee charges double for out of towners.

Cornelia feels that the mission of the Golden Gulls is to have activities for all seniors. Every week Zumba attendance grows.  We are not supposed to be a money making operation.

Theresa asked how many of the Zumba participants are actually seniors. Mary Ann said all are over the age of 65.

Theresa has been checking out other Zumba classes in the area. Most charge at least $15.

Mary Ann said that Zumba is the only exercise we have for the seniors and that no one questions when we lose money on our social events.

Maryjane asked when the flyer, that we have been talking about for months, for Zumba will be ready. We have to do a better job of advertising Zumba and our other events.

Caryn announced that she has arranged with the Fire department and instructors to move the Zumba and Chair Yoga classes to Tuesday mornings at 9 and 10AM.  This will start the second week of June.  Caryn will get approval for a flyer reflecting this change from Chris Riehl.

Joan made a motion for town residents to pay $5 for classes and non residents to pay $10.

Caryn has no update from the First Aid Squad as to how many Project Ice packages they are seeing in seniors homes when they go out on calls.

Lastly, Caryn would like our committee to recognize a volunteer of the month similar to what the recreation Committee does.

The Recreation Committee is started a Running/Walking club to be held mornings at 8:00am on the Boardwalk beginning in June.  They would like the seniors to be involved. Everyone agreed it is is a great idea.

Discussion ensued as to what type of events we would like to offer to the Seniors. The following is a list of proposed events for the remainder of 2023. Of course, approval will need to be granted by the town.

When finalized we will have a postcard or flyer with all of our events to post on the town website and give out at our events.
