Recreation Meeting Minutes
In attendance:
Bob Santanello
Carolan Ammirata
Pat Cavanaugh
Debra Bodine-Vazquez
Meeting was called to order at 7:05pm
Old Business:
–Best Day program was a huge success. There was plenty of volunteers, all vendors did their jobs wonderfully. We will sponsor the event next year. Good job, Pat Cavanaugh!
–Surf Camp went well. There were two full sessions.
–PPB Summer Camp: Went well with little problems. It is felt that we need to advertise for counselors earlier. Also that we need to have a stronger role in the organizing of activities so that the program is a bit more structured. Questionnaires that parents filled out at end of the session were discussed. Debra motioned, Carolan seconded and the vote was unanimous to expand the hours to 8:30am-12:30pm.
–Bon Fire: went well in spite of the weather not working with us (rainy). Those who attended enjoyed pizza, smores, live music and a huge fire. This event will return as a yearly town event to be held after labor day.
Cameras: Will be installed on the tennis courts with a feed directly into the police dept. There continues to be too much vandalism there. Nets constantly being cut.
New Business:
–Rec Basketball: Is on target for the 2018-19 season Sign ups will begin in October. The program will run from Nov-March. This program is open for grades K-8. Carolan motioned, Patrick seconded to approve the same director and referees as in 2017. Unanimous vote yes
Carolan motioned, Patrick seconded to approve the same fees as in 2017. Unanimous vote yes
–Tug of War to be held on October 20 at the Inlet (Pt Beach side and Manasquan side). Steve Reid is in charge of the event which is being sponsored by Jersey Mike’s. Organizers must get in their paperwork to town hall. Teams (football, police, fire dept etc…) will compete all in good fun! There will be food trucks as well as other vendors. Carolan motioned, Debra seconded to approve. Unanimous vote yes
–Rec Wrestling: Tom Toohey is heading up this activity. The program will run from Nov 1,2018- March 1, 2019, M-F, 5p-8p in the HS mini gym.
–Pickle Ball Group has asked if Rec Committee would consider removing 2nd basketball court from Pleasure Park to install more pickleball courts. The idea was discussed and voted NO unanimously as the BB courts are heavily used.
Rec Basketball: Pat Cavanaugh would like to set up a Rec Basketball camp/league for next summer. This could take place in summer months. We would need to get new backboards for the hoops. More to come on the topic.
Meeting was called to an end at 7:45pm. Our next meeting will be held on October 22, at 6:30pm.
Respectfully submitted
