Committee Meeting Minutes
Monday June 22, 2020 – 6:30pm – virtual meeting via Zoom
Call to order: 6:35pm by Committee Chairperson Ryan Simunovich
In attendance: Carolan Ammirata, John Babbini, Debra Bodine-Vazquez, Angela Bouton, Kate
DiCorcia, Lenore Fastuca, Kait Greenberg, Michele Mosca, Angela O’Cone, Kieran Schultz, Ryan
Simunovich, Wendy Yorke, Doug Vitale. Note: Non-member guests in attendance: Ann Lightburn,
Billi Jo Murphy, Glen Paesano.
Review prior meeting minutes: Michele Mosca read the minutes from the May 18, 2020 meeting.
A motion to accept the minutes was made by Debra Bodine-Vazquez and seconded by Lenore
Fastuca.
Executive reports:
Chairperson: Ryan Simunovich reported that an electronic vote was held to approve the 12th
summer camp counselor. A motion to accept was made by Angela O’Cone and seconded by John
Babbini. Unanimous committee member approval. Michele Mosca abstained. Ryan asked Doug how
do we move forward with ensuring the newest hire is approved prior to the start of camp on
7/13/2020, given the next council meeting is 7/21/2020. Doug Vitale explained the council could vote
electronically with assistance from Eileen Farrell.
Correspondence: Michele Mosca reported having received one email inquiry this month at
RecreationCommittee@pointbeach.org with respect to the Best Day event.
Treasurer: Ryan stated he has spoken with Sean Hennessy to connect on committee finances.
Council Liaison: Councilman Doug Vitale reported the new website went live last week and asked the
committee to review our page closely and suggest any updates or changes. Doug also reported that
Glen Paesano from the Open Space Committee meeting would speak tonight as a follow up to last
month’s discussion on Maryland Ave beach.
Subcommittee reports:
Basketball: no updates to report.
Bonfire: no to updates report.
Family Fishing Day: no updates to report.
Social Media: no updates reported.
Summer Camp: Michele Mosca reported that she and Assistant Director Allison Pastor are preparing
for 3 days of staff training. Michele also shared that she was able to secure a Fisher Family Fund
grant for $5,000 to be spent on updating sports equipment and supplies. There are close to 90
children registered at this time and while the online registration via Google Forms has been
successful, several parents have reported issues with submitting payments via the municipal PayPal
site. Lastly, the outline for the Covid-19 plan was reviewed and input was solicited from the
committee.
Summertime Surf: no updates reported.
Wrestling: no updates reported.
Holiday Lights: no to updates report.
Best Day: Ryan reported that their events have been cancelled for this year.
Tug of War: no updates reported.
Yoga on the Beach : Carolan Ammirata introduced Billi Jo Murphy, who will teach Yoga on the Beach
this summer. Carolan reported that approval for use of the beach and restrooms has been granted. It
was suggested to possibly set up a Recreation Committee specific Venmo account to use in lieu of
the town’s PayPal site, given the issue reported above. Doug stated he would look into this.
Uke on the Beach: Ryan revisited exploring this option with the committee for this summer. A motion
to accept was made by Carolan Ammirata and seconded by Katie DiCorcia. Unanimous committee
member approval.
New business:
None reported.
Open discussion:
Ways to use the space at the band shell were discussed by the committee.
Glen Paesano led a conversation with input from Ann Lightburn on how the Recreation Committee
might be able to make use of open space at Maryland Avenue beach if secured by the Open Space
Committee.
A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by John Babbini and seconded by Angela O’Cone.
