Old Business
*Security cameras now have a service contract. The town is also purchasing more cameras to so we can best monitor our open spaces.
New Business
Best Day 2019 Tish and John Dryer have reached out to Pat Cavanaugh with a date for this year’s event, July 13/14 as they would like to get it on town Calendar. Possible move to Risden (Jenkinson) Beach from Maryland Ave for this year’s event. More discussion to follow.
Open Space Money
Maryann Ellsworth is researching a handicap swing for the Pleasure Park. We would use the $500.00 from the Open Space along with other funds in the Rec Account. The swing will be able to accommodate someone in a wheelchair. A bit more research needs to be done before there is a final decision. Mayor Reid will also be raising funds for this to reach the full cost.
Tug of War 2019
The first Tug of War was a success therefore plans are in the works for the 2019 event sometime in October. The Mayor would like to have more involvement from the town via businesses, HS Band, etc. Last year was the first year so there were some mishaps that can better be planned for now that it is understood what we need and the way it is felt the event should go.
Bonfire 2019
The annual end of season bonfire will be held on Sept 7, 2019 from approximately 6-10:00 pm at the Maryland Ave beach. New Board Member Doug Vitale who helped with this event last year will chair this event this year and will submit paperwork along with Carolan. It was voted to accept his motion 1st-Debra BV, 2nd-Maryann E.
Easter Egg Hunt 2019
Our annual Easter Egg hunt at Pleasure Park will be held on Saturday April 13. Carolan Ammirata chairs this event. Help is usually gotten from HS Key Club to stuff eggs and help out at the event.
Summer Recreations Camp 2019
Next meeting we will put out notices that we are looking for a new camp counselor to run our camp. Co-counselor Weston Bargholz was mentioned as a possibility.
Dance Event
John Bobbini brought up the idea of having a dance event maybe with the help of Fred Astaire Dance Studio. It could be held in the Bandshell in the spring (May/early June), “dancing under the stars” or “spring fling”. Maybe serve food and beverage at the event. This will be discussed more at next month’s meeting.
Financial Review- Maryann Ellsworth presented last years’ numbers.
Good news- the ending balanced was $33548.92, an increase of 9393.17 over the opening balance of $24155.75. The increase was due to the revenue from the tug-of-war.
However there was concern expressed by the committee that rec basketball and summer park both lost money.
Meeting ended at 7:42 with Debra BV making first motion and John B the second. Our next meeting will be held on Monday, February 25 at 6:30.
Respectfully submitted
