on Facebook.
Committee Reports:
Basketball – Sean Hennessy stated he is working on reaching out to Point Pleasant Boro regarding
playing against their teams next year. High School student members Kayleigh Borowski and Elaine
Garcia agree there would be much interest among Key Club members in volunteering to keep the
scorebook and clock to earn service hours. Kayleigh and Elaine will work to coordinate this for next
year with Key Club Advisor Alexx Bianchi. Sean stated he thinks it would be difficult to work with St.
Peter School to get gym time. Michele Mosca reported that High School teacher Anthony Logothetis
is working on thank you plaques for the 8 business sponsors. The committee continued the
discussion on planning an end-of-season celebration that would invite the players for pizza and
games as well as present thank you plaques to our sponsors. Debra Bodine-Vasquez will order
pizza, drinks, and snacks and Kait DiCorcia will create a flyer to inform families of the event. Michele
Mosca will submit the use of building request to the school district.
In addition to basketball, Sean Hennessy presented two ideas for discussion – 1) Involving Vintage
Van Gogh with art projects for summer camp. Sean will reach out to the business owner to
coordinate her attendance at an upcoming committee meeting. 2) “Uke on the Beach” – Steve Bryant
will run a six-week class for children on Maryland Ave. beach if space can be provided. 20% of the
registration fees will come back to the committee.
Summer Camp – Ryan Simunovich stated an job posting ad has been put in the Ocean Star for
Director, Assistant Director and Counselors with a March 13th deadline. Councilman Vitale will
complete and submit the Special Event application. A motion to accept the hours (8:30am-12:30pm),
dates (7 weeks, Monday thru Friday, June 29 – August 14), registration fees ($250 per child), and
salaries (Director – $3575.00, Assistant Director – $2145.00, Head Counselor – $1815.00, Counselor –
$1650.00) was made by Wendy Yorke and seconded by Angela O’Cone. Mayor Kanitra reported our
insurance does not permit us to employ anyone under the age of 18. Wendy Yorke suggested
advertising for positions in the schools and Debra Bodine-Vasquez suggested reaching out to the Key
Club for HS students who may be interested in volunteering at the camp. Wendy also offered to
coordinate with a volunteer to help children prepare an end of camp performance.
Wrestling – Robby Neill stated a building request form is in the process of being submitted for Board
of Education approval. Coaches and volunteers are needed and Councilman Vitale explained they
are subject to a background check.
Summertime Surf Camp – Scot Crowley stated the plan for this summer includes 20 half price passes
and will run June 24-28.
Family Fishing Day – Ryan Simunovich will chair this committee. Local business owners John and
Shannon Godwin have also volunteered to help with this event. Councilman Vitale will also offer
support on this committee.
Best Day – This event takes place over 2 days (Sat-Sun) in July and brings dozens of special needs
children for a day at the Maryland Ave. beach. Ryan Simunovich will contact Pat Cavanaugh to see if
he’s interested in chairing this event. Scot Crowley will help. Lifeguards and surfers are needed to
assist as well as volunteers to help the event run smoothly.
Bonfire – The date is set for Sept. 12, 2020. Kelly McGee will chair this committee and Mayor Kanitra,
Councilman Vitale, and John Babbini will help. Lumber and food donations are needed. Ways to
keep this a “locals only” event were discussed.
Tug of War – A committee chair is still needed. Ryan Simunovich stated that TD Bank has offered to
support this event.
Easter Egg Hunt – Kait DiCorcia will chair this committee and Debra Bodine-Vasquez, Lenore
Fastuca, Angela O’Cone, John Babbini and Wendy Yorke will help. This year’s event will take place
in Pleasure Park on April 4th from 3:00pm-4:00pm. Kait suggested moving this event to one that
models the candy cane walk in downtown Manasquan to involve local businesses. The committee
discussed and supported this idea but agreed there was not enough time for this year. Ryan
Simunovich will run this idea by the Chamber of Commerce to gauge interest. Debra
Bodine-Vasquez suggested asking high school Key Club members to volunteer to help with this
event.
A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Kelly McGee and seconded by Scot Crowley.
