Open Space Advisory Committee
DRAFT Meeting Minutes – March 8th, 2018
Attendees: Anne Lightburn, Sal Pepe, Mary Pearce and Dave Russell
Absent: Maryann Ellsworth, Kristin Hennessey, Dara Stieglitz and Councilman Toohey
Anne Lightburn welcomed Mary Pearce, Historic Society representative, and Dave Russell, Planning Board Representative.
Anne provided an update, from Chris Riehl, that the ownership for the Coast Guard Station is at least 2 to 3 years out. At this time, the government has not made a decision on the process for excising the property. The committee would like to tour the station and Anne will check with Chris Riehl about doing so.
The borough’s open space trust fund will be making a down payment of $23,000 for the bulkhead repairs. The balance will be bonded.
Sealed bids for the bathhouse operations are due March 15 and there are potentially four interested parties.
A bond ordinance will be issued at the next governing body meeting for the proposed Inlet amenities (shade pavilion, landscaping, walkway etc.). Chris expects to out to bid in late March, award contract in April and hopefully finish in June. The playground is expected to be installed and paid for by a private party in late March.
The committee discussed safety issues around seasonal speed reductions on 35N and 35S and biking. Sal Pepe will contact the state to see if they are still reducing speeds on 35 in shore towns south of PPB. Dave Russell volunteered to review the bike safety plan done by the DOT several years ago to determine if there is anything the committee wants to recommend to the governing body.
Dave Russell indicated that the Natural Resource Inventory may need updating. He will bring this to the Environmental Commission’s attention.
Meeting adjourned 8:20 pm
