NON-RESIDENT TAXPAYER ADIVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES

December 3, 2022

The meeting began at 10:01

Mayor Kanitra started the meeting addressing numerous questions that were submitted by the Board with the following responses:

Bird Flu-Birds are continuing to die at Lake of the Lillies.  The State said that the flu needs to run its course.  The problem is that the Lake is over-populated with Swans. The area should be avoided by humans and pets.

ICE-The Senior Committee is working on signing up senior citizens to help first responders in emergency situations.

BEACH ACCESS-Borough ordinance requires public access to everyone all year round to fish and walk the shoreline. There is no congregating after hours.

ENGINEERING AND LEGAL FEES-The fees are higher because more is being done in the community.  The historic and business districts, Channel Drive and the water tank are a few projects that are being improved.

AUGUST MEETING-The Mayor and Board all agreed that the August Meeting was a success.

PROJECTED REVENUE-The projected revenue looks good for the year.  The budget continues to look strong with parking revenue up, grants coming in and loan forgiveness.

POLICE-The Mayor wants as many specials as we can get.  Last year, there were not enough but the numbers are already up for next year.

CHANNEL DRIVE-The Mayor is continuing his work on developing Channel Drive with condos, retail, a hotel and a walk along the water.

Mayor Kanitra also discussed the following:

  1. Flood plain management concerns.
  2. There is an unprecedented boom in construction.  Everyone is fixing their houses and 54 new houses are being proposed throughout the community with less rentals.
  3. There are more full-time residents in the community.
  4. A video is being made to encourage living and raising a family in PPB.
  5. The Winter Wonderland, Sea of Lights, the Cooks Tour and the Tree Lighting are a few events in December.
  6. Vic DeLuca suggested a Newcomers Event.
  7. New businesses are coming into the community. Pops Diner is under construction, the Bank of America building has been sold, a sandwich shop moved in next to Last Wave, and a Cheesesteak restaurant is coming. Spicy’s Taco & Tequila Bar is now open in the former Spots on 35 North. They are starting work at the old Marlins and several other businesses are coming.
  8. The Chamber of Commerce is doing many events in Town.
  9. On December 15th, there will be a ceremony in South Orange to celebrate PPB Boardwalk being honored as one of four great places in New Jersey for 2022.

The next NRTAC meeting will be in February or March.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:46
