The Green Team/Environmental Commission Meeting of March 24th was called to order by chairperson, Peter Ritchings.

 

 

GREEN TEAM MEETING

The status of our Bronze level certification for Sustainable Jersey was discussed.  The following areas and persons responsible are:

 

-Green Grounds and Maintenance- Cathy Sogorka  and Mike Ramos will follow up

-Pet License- Karen Mills

-Recycling- Patty Kile

-Anti-idling- Mary Jo Gradel

-Prescription disposal- Jackie Sirchio

-Electric Cars-Rob Mercado

-Tree Protection-Anne Lightburn

-Tree Maintenance- Louise Stiffufsen

-Food Pantry- Patti Villani

-Tobacco Free Community- Cary M

 

Green Team will be at the Committee Fair on April 3rd and will do a presentation for the Golden Gulls.  As always, new members are welcome and needed.

 

 

 

 

ENVIRONMENTAL COMMISSION MEETING:

– minutes of the 2/24 meeting were accepted.  Motion by Cathy Sogorka, seconded by Anne Lightburn.

 

Report of Officers

-Chairperson:  Peter Ritchings reported that we did not receive any mail.  We have an opening on the Environmental Commission.

 

-Treasurer Report: Anne Lightburn- 2022 Budget Request submitted.  ANJEC dues for 2022 paid.  The town has accounts with Bains, All points and Amazon.  Purchase orders must be requested before placing orders.

 

 

Committee task force and Project Status Reports

-Council Status report- welcome to Mike Ramos, our council liaison. Reported on water treatment plant.

 

-Shade Tree Commission-Anne Lightburn reports- Presentation on trees went well. Over 25 in attendance.  Another presentation on 4/6 on native plants.  Karen Waltzer from Barnegat Bay partnership will present.

 

 

-Planning Board Actions-  Peter Ritchings- applications for outdoor dining and signage related ordinances

 

 

Ongoing Business-Status report

  • Street ends- Forman Ave and Water Street were discussed.  E.C. Will inventory each street end.  Beach plum bushes did well last year.

 

  • Landscape requirement ordinance:  Mike Ramos was filled in on this initiative
  • Boardwalk water bottle filling station:  Cathy Sogorka has made a request to Chris Reihl for two more stations
  • Use of pesticides on public properties: Kitty Stillufsen has a copy of Ocean City’s ordinance regarding pesticides.  She will meet with Head of DPW to discuss further the possibility of a proclamation and future steps.
  • need a work day to weed and spruce up the strip of land between the post office and the fire department.  April 30th is the proposed date.
