Point Beach Arts Committee Meeting Minutes

September 21, 2020

(Rescheduled from September 14, 2020)

 

The meeting was held virtually via Zoom and was called to order at 7:45 pm by Secretary, Laurie Vicari

 

Attendees: The following members, volunteers and liaisons were in attendance: Paul Kanitra, Arlene Testa, Lauren Goldfarb Edwards,  Kristi Monticello, Laurie Vicari, Kim Allen, Tim Allen, Carmelina Carra, Tracy Jackson,  Penny Davies, Joylene Rock.

 

Laurie Vicari, Secretary, recorded the minutes of the meeting.

 

The Agenda attached as Exhibit A was presented as the format for the meeting.

 

 

  • Chairperson’s Report:

 

Chairperson, Lauren Goldfarb Edwards commented that many Arts sponsored activities were happening: Juried Art Show, Book Fair, Photo Classes and that we would like to keep the momentum going.

 

  • Vice Chairperson’s Report:

 

No Report was made.

 

  • Treasurer– role needs to be filled.

 

  • Secretary’s Report and Approval of the August meeting minutes:

 

Secretary, Laurie Vicari reported that she would be keeping everyone updated regarding upcoming meetings and their virtual connections.   Then, Laurie moved and Kristi seconded approval of the minutes from the August 2020 meeting.  Minutes were approved unanimously.

 

 

  • 2020 Scheduled and Proposed Virtual Events:

 

  1. Juried Art Show and Reception – Carmelina advised that the Show will be held online instead of waiting for the 2021 Gala. Approximately 50 entries will be displayed.  Christopher worked out details for uploading artwork to be judged.  People’s choice could be held after the judged show.  Carmelina drafted a letter to the artists explaining the new format.
  2. Free Photo Classes– Carmelina advised that about 13 people participated in class held on August 27th at 7:00 pm.  Received good feedback.  No classes scheduled in the future right now.
  3. Vintage Van Goghs Virtual Art ClassesNo report.
  4. What Inspires You Blog – training is on hold right now – waiting for Christopher.

 

 

  • Upcoming 2020 “in person” Events:
  1. Point Bookshop Book Festival – Kim said that she would contact Karen Mills for permission to use the parking lot behind Borden’s so that it could be closed off to accommodate businesses and vendors – approximately 75-100 people possibly. Arlene advised that she would find out if permission was needed for tents and tables.  Kim advised that 4 authors would be present to read their books.  The Arts Committee will have a table at the event as well.
  2. Do You Wanna Build a Snowman? Joylene advised that promotion would start the first week of November.  Have about 25 forms in storage from last year.  If need more, hope to get the wood donated.  Pickup would be around 11/20.  Judging would take place on 12/21 and winner would be announced NY day.  Joylene would ask Laura D if trophies were given out to last year’s winners.  Maybe give Chamber gift cards this year?
  3. Knitting Group at the Gottlieb Building or Globetrotter – Kristi said that she has to follow up with Maggie. Arlene suggested using the Women’s Club.  VVG was suggested too.  Kristi said she would call Sonya.
  4. Downtown Gallery – Kristi advised that she was waiting on Paul who is contacting the Business Owner’s in Town. Arlene advised that Caryn Burns has been talking to store owners and they are receptive.  Will talk to Caryn.
  5. Paint at the Bandshell – Mary Ellen and Penny leads – Although Bandshell gathering is postponed until 2021; there is the possibility of a socially distanced gathering at Mary Ellen’s shop. Will continue to discuss.
  6. 2020 Gala Joylene advised that Press releases have been made about the postponement . She will also contact the Ocean Star to update them. Kristi will check with the Chamber mutually agreeable dates for 2021.  Joylene will check for conflicts with the Board of Ed.   for the Board communicated to her that the Gala  will be postponed until the Spring of 2021.  She is still in contact with the White Sands to see if they would have any plans for outdoor space to hold the Gala.  Another option could be Wharfside; Paul will contact them after October.

 

  • Murals – no updates.

 

  • Point Beach Arts Committee website – on hold – waiting for Christopher to  schedule training on the backend of the website so that others can post.   Participants acknowledge that our social media presence is stagnant – possibly bring on a college student to work with Christopher .  Arlene suggested HS seniors taking OCC classes for internship.  Need to have a written plan to present to the colleges (OCC. Monmouth)  to submit for consideration.

 

  • Adjournment: As there was no further New Business or Questions to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 8:45.
