Point Beach Arts Committee Meeting Minutes

September 13, 2021

 

The meeting was held at BAM BAM Burger, 522 Bay Avenue, PPB and called to order by  Vice Chairperson Kristi Monticello at 7:12 pm.

 

Attendees: The following members and volunteers were in attendance: Lauren Goldfarb Edwards, Laurie Vicari, Kim Allen, Kristi Monticello, Tim Allen, Kris Constantine, Larry Schwartz, Tracey Jackson, Judy van Brunt, Molly Kastner, James Dalton, Arlene Testa,  Joe Lipari

 

Laurie Vicari, Secretary, recorded the minutes of the meeting.

 

The Agenda attached as Exhibit A was presented as the format for the meeting.

 

  • Chairperson’s Report: no report

 

  • Vice Chairperson’s Report: Welcomed everyone to BAM BAM Burger.

 

  • Treasurer’s Report: Kim reported that finances were the same, no update

 

  • Secretary’s Report: Laurie asked that minutes of the August meeting be approved as read and members approved as such.

 

  • Past Events and Recap:
    1. No events to recap during August

 

  • Scheduled and Upcoming 2021/22 events:
  1. October First Friday – Judy and Tracey volunteered to man the Arts Committee table and hand out cider.  Kris offered Home Run to run movie and pizza kids drop off for parents that wished to shop or dine on their own.  Molly offered to run a charcuterie box table.
  2. Homegrown Harvest Fall Festival – to be held Sunday Oct 24. Met with Chief Michigan and PBFD.  Bay Avenue will be closed from Arnold to Trenton, vendor tables on one side of the street only.  Ideas for Festival – Larry suggested that the Senior Cttee could host a talent show.  Scarecrow contest – talk to Beautification Cttee to see if they would move scarecrows from Gazebo to Arnold Avenue lampposts.  Pie Tasting Contest.  Master Pumpkin Carver. Music; live band.
  3. Winter Wonderland Festival – collaborate with Rec Committee for Dec 11 event at Pleasure Park. We need to look at the park with Rec Cttee to determine # of vendors to invite. Discussed also having a dance troupe at the tree lighting ceremony day after Thanksgiving.
  4. Tile Fundraiser – Kim lead – discussing a fundraiser idea – we have a sketch and need to get it fine turned. Will be placed on Food Shack back wall.  Tiles will be digitized. 
  5. 2021 Gala – rebrand and hold in 2022 – no discussion at this time, but agreed we need to decide upon a venue and theme.

 

 

  • Murals – Pleasure Park in progress, ReMax Building and BAM BAM Burger completed. Happening:  White Sands and restoration of “The Great Wall”.
  • #POINTmetotheBEACH – new hashtag – having a design contest for car magnets using the hashtag.
  • Social Media and Website – they will be doing all posting for us.

 

 

  • New business –

 

Kim mentioned that the Kiwanis Club contacted her to  see if the Arts Committee could supply a photo op backdrop for an event they are hosting in October.  Kris at Home Run might be able to assist.

Joe Lipari advised he would be interested in hosting ceramic classes – will discuss further.

 

  • Adjournment: As there was no further New Business or Questions to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm.
