Borough of Point Pleasant Beach Point Beach Arts Committee Meeting Minutes
September 12, 2022
The meeting was held at the Municipal Building Council Meeting Room, 416 New Jersey Ave., PPB and called to
order by Chairperson Lauren Goldfarb Edwards at 7:15 pm.
Attendees: The following members and volunteers were in attendance: Lauren Goldfarb Edwards, Kristi
Monticello, Darryl Monticello, Tracy Jackson, Larry Schwartz, Dave Betten, Arlene Testa, Vanessa Riley, Tanya
Capriglione
Kristi Monticello, Vice Chair, recorded the minutes of the meeting.
The Agenda attached as Exhibit A was presented as the format for the meeting.
1) Chairperson’s Report: Looking for a Treasurer! The Arts Committee earned the town points towards our
Sustainable NJ certification during the last submission.
2) Vice Chairperson’s Report: Assisting Rec with vendors for the Tug-of-War event. Added a Scarecrow contest
to the Homegrown Harvest Festival. Scarecrows will be on lamp posts throughout town. People can vote for
the best one and prizes will be awarded $100, $75 & $50 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. $10 entry fee.
● Discussed putting together advertising and/or sponsorship packages for future festivals
● Plan to have all dates set to advertise everything at the beginning of the year and offer a
discount to vendors who sign up for all events in advance.
● Discussed advertising events via paid ads on Facebook and Instagram. Also getting on the Ocean
Star calendar of events and doing articles with them.
3) Treasurer’s Report: no report
4) Secretary’s Report: A vote that the February, March and April and May, July and August minutes to be
approved was not taken as there was no quorum.
5) Past Events and Recap:
a) Spotlight Artists at Library and Town Hall – Joan Tozzi Ablahani’s art is on exhibit at Municipal Bldg. for
September through November; Sheila Evans will exhibit December through February.
6) Scheduled and Upcoming 2022-2023 events:
a) Virtual Juried Art Show – Winter 2023. Provided Melissa Hood and Sheila Soyster with the detailed
instructions and both will co-chair this event. Planning to meet in the next couple of weeks
b) Fall Homegrown Festival – Kristi Monticello to be Chairperson. Coordinating with Rec Committee to add
a “Kids Korner”. Little Point Book Store to help with band. Arlene Testa to run the pie contest – looking
for bakers to submit pies.
c) PartY By The Sea – Spring of 2023. Tracy Jackson to Chair. Considering the week before Memorial Day
and either a Thursday evening or Sunday afternoon. Arlene Testa offered to help with this event.
d) Murals – Daryll Monitcello to chair; Jager Lumber has agreed to a mural and Lauren Kurtz will be the
artist. Pleasure park to be completed in the fall.
e) Social Media – Lauren Kurtz is doing a GREAT JOB!! Thank you!!
f) Artist’s registry – Work in progress. Judy to work with Melissa Hood on a format. It was suggested to
handout postcards at events with a QR code link to send in information. Need to research how this is
done.
g) Art Walk – Dave Betten to chair. Dave has researched how these events are run. Dave to reach out to
store owners for input on the event. Considering dates in April 2023.
7) New business: No new business
Adjournment: As there was no further New Business or Questions to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 8:32
pm.
