Point Beach Arts Committee Meeting Minutes

October 11, 2021

 

The meeting was held at Top That Donuts, 210 Ocean, PPB and called to order by Chairperson Lauren Goldfarb Edwards at 7:10 pm.

 

Attendees: The following members and volunteers were in attendance: Lauren Goldfarb Edwards, Laurie Vicari, Kim Allen, Kristi Monticello, Tim Allen, Larry Schwartz, Tracey Jackson, Judy van Brunt, James Dalton, Arlene Testa, Penny Davies, Kathy Buegler, Kathleen Galante,  Matt Luongo

 

Laurie Vicari, Secretary, recorded the minutes of the meeting.

 

The Agenda attached as Exhibit A was presented as the format for the meeting.

 

  • Chairperson’s Report: Lauren welcomed everyone to Top That Donuts.  She advised that Octo 1 First Friday went well and that the Homegrown Harvest Fest was taking place on October 24.

 

  • Vice Chairperson’s Report: no report

 

  • Treasurer’s Report: Kim reported that finances were the same, no update

 

  • Secretary’s Report: Laurie asked that minutes of the September meeting be approved as read and members approved as such.

 

  • Past Events and Recap:
    1. October First Friday “Sweater Weather”-   Judy and Tracey lead this event.    They reported a decent turn out and everyone seemed to enjoy the evening.  They suggested that going forward there be a hand out that could be provided so that people knew which stores were participating and what sales they were having.

 

  • Scheduled and Upcoming 2021/22 events:

 

  1. Homegrown Harvest Fall Festival – to be held Sunday Oct 24. Met with Chief Michigan and PBFD.  Bay Avenue will be closed from Arnold to Trenton, vendor tables on one side of the street only.  Senior Cttee would be holding a Talent Show,  Arts would sponsor a Pie Tasting contest, Rec would sponsor a pet costume parade.
  2. Winter Wonderland Festival – collaborate with Rec Committee for Dec 11 event at Pleasure Park. Rec will determine vendors – we will come up with crafts.
  3. Tile Fundraiser – Kim leaddiscussing a fundraiser idea – we have a sketch and need to get it fine turned. Will be placed on Food Shack back wall.  Tiles will be digitized.   Kim spoke with Bernie’s Office manager, he is backed up.  We will push this to 2022.
  4. 2021 Gala – rebrand and hold in 2022 – pARTy by the Sea was agreed upon theme. Maybe ask Wharfside or Boatyard.  More to discuss going forward.

 

 

  • Murals – Pleasure Park in progress, ReMax Building and BAM BAM Burger completed. Happening:  White Sands, which was completed and restoration of “The Great Wall”.
  • #POINTmetotheBEACH – new hashtag – having a design contest for car magnets using the hashtag. Agreed to use the winning image and use on sweatshirts, t shirts, etc. going forward.
  • December Arts Cttee meeting – need venue. Maybe Offshore – they have an upstairs room.  Laurie will look into.
  • Social Media and Website – AS doing our postings.

 

 

  • New business –

 

Penny suggested a chili contest – discussed that the Chamber already does one.

Penny suggested a Drum Circle – James advised that in his experience they do not draw a crowd.

Tracey suggested a Porch Fest – may have issues with PD and getting Town approval.

Snowman contest – not on calendar for this year – maybe other options.

Beach Portraits – maybe have a photographer sponsored by the Arts Committee to do portraits

Matt Luongo advised that Rec Cttee is having T shirts made with all 2022 events on it – possible Arts Committee can be on them too.

James advised that he came in first in an International Blue Challenge contest sponsored by the Jersey Shore Jazz & Blues Foundation.  He will be in Memphis TN in Jan 2022 for the international contest.
