Point Beach Arts Committee Meeting Minutes
November 16, 2020
(Rescheduled from November 9, 2020)
The meeting was held virtually via Zoom and was called to order at 7:30 pm by Chairperson, Lauren Goldfarb-Edwards
Attendees: The following members, volunteers and liaisons were in attendance: Lauren Goldfarb-Edwards, , Laurie Vicari, Kim Allen, Tim Allen, Carmelina Carra, Lisa Lewis, Tracy Jackson, Judy van Brunt, Christopher Corcoran, Andrea Bowne, James Dalton.
Laurie Vicari, Secretary, recorded the minutes of the meeting.
The Agenda attached as Exhibit A was presented as the format for the meeting.
- Chairperson’s Report:
Lauren thanked all those who helped to move the Juried Art Show from an in person to a virtual online event. She also reported that the Committee was sponsoring a Snowless Snowman contest for the second year and that the Committee was in the works to prepare a Downtown Art Gallery.
- Vice Chairperson’s Report:
No Report was made.
- Treasurer– role needs to be filled.
- Secretary’s Report:
Secretary, Laurie Vicari reported that she would be keeping everyone updated regarding upcoming meetings and their virtual connections. She also asked for a motion for the meeting minutes from the September and October Committee meetings to be approved as read. Lauren motioned and Carmelina seconded. September and October Committee meeting minutes were approved as read.
- 2020 Scheduled and Proposed Virtual Events:
- Juried Art Show and Reception – Carmelina updated – she asked that everyone share the artists and their entries on their FB and other SM pages. She asked how winners would be paid and Laurie said she would contact Karen Mills and loop Carmelina in.
- Carve or Decorate a Pumpkin – Kristi wasn’t in attendance, but advised that there were 4 entries and winners were announced.
- Vintage Van Goghs Virtual Art Classes – Virtual class was held on 11/15 – Sonya not in attendance to update.
- What Inspires You Blog – training is on hold right now – waiting for Christopher.
- Upcoming 2020 “in person” Events:
- Coastal co – op – Laurie advised that Mary Ellen indicated she would be interested in having an after school art program. Need to follow up with Mary Ellen.
- Do You Wanna Build a Snowman? Christopher said he would get the event online. Cttee acknowledged that the stored forms had to be taken out of storage. Needs to be coordinated with Joylene.
- Winter Wonderland – proposed collaboration with the Rec Committee. Suggested date Dec 12th at Pleasure Park. Unfortunately, due to new State crowd restrictions, this event has been cancelled.
- Downtown Gallery – Lauren advised that there was a meeting a few weeks ago with Kristen O’Rourke, the Town’s Quality of Life Coordinator to identify storefronts. Kristen was working with Montclair and NJ Fresh Air Initiative to come up with templates for artists to participate. It was suggested that the winners of the JAS be spotlighted in some of the store fronts, along with other applicants.
- 2020 Gala – Andrea advised that she did not have any updates; had not spoken with Joylene.
- Murals – Possible mural on White Sands – Jim was not in attendance but advised that he met with them and maybe looking at a mural on their Ocean front property in the spring of 2021.
- Point Beach Arts Committee website – on hold – waiting for Christopher to schedule training on the backend of the website so that others can post.
- New business –
- Carmelina advised that she was sponsoring a free online Adobe Light room class on December 10th. Need to advertise.
- Suggestion to have a Valentine ’s Day “Heart Display”. Maybe incorporate into a scavenger hunt – who ever finds the most hearts – or even “THE GOLDEN HEART” winds a prize. Hearts could be placed in store windows as well. Need to discuss further.
- James Dalton suggested a rescheduled “Spoken Work Event” since the April 2020 one had to be cancelled. Use the same model in 2021 as was planned in 2020. He has two visions in mind and will have more info by the December meeting.
- Adjournment: As there were no further New Business or Questions to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 8:05 pm.
