- Treasurer’s Report:
The Committee’s Treasurer was not present; however, the Treasurer reported via email that the September 2019 balances were $10,600 and $2,518.
- Upcoming 2019 Events
- Snowman Decorating Contest – Laura, Jackie and Paul leads. Joylene and Christopher assisting, flyer and woodshop to cut forms, respectively. Paul will get wood from Home Depot and drop off so that HS woodshop can cut forms. Will work out so that pick up of forms can start on Friday, November 29th. Pick up can take place at Barefoot Real Estate and Vintage Van Gogh’s. Will decide on aware – VVG will donate a Gift Certificate and look into trophy of some kind.
- Proposed trip to Gardens for Sculpture – Tracey lead. Small group to meet there – any interest? Too expensive to arrange for group transportation – maybe organize a small group in the Spring of 2020 to travel, but not as an organized event.
- 11/29 Flash Mob/Caroling – Kristi lead. Performing group from Zak will sing this year. Coordinate with Christopher to send out email blasts. Practices will take place 2X before event. Need to coordinate with Chamber for timing of singers and Flash Mob.
- Business/Arts Committee coordinated Christmas Craft Day – Shop Local Saturday, November 30th. Kristi lead. Determined not enough time to plan for 2019 – table to 2020. Put on calendar to start thinking about in September 2020.
- Upcoming 2020 Events:
- 2020 Gala – Joylene lead – met with White Sands and locked down date of Saturday, March 21, 2020. Theme will be Black and White Masquerade. Approximate cost to White Sands will be approximately $25 p/h. We will still charge $65 per ticket. Need to start going out to solicit for sponsorships. Need a lead for sponsorships. Joylene sent out Sign Up Genius for volunteers for sub committees. Laurie will send out again along with sponsorship form once Joylene forwards it to her.
- Juried Art Show –– Will accept open submissions, but judge what is submitted and only display “Best of Show” at Gala. Lisa Lewis will also assist Carmelina. White Sands agreed to allow hanging of Art, but agreed no Art will be hung on 2nd floor or displayed in Gift Shop. Jim advised that he had the Community Art tile piece from last year’s Gala. Carmelina is waiting to meet White Sands with Gerrie.
- Winter Dinner & Movie – Kim lead. Will be in February – a halfway to Summer 2020 event. Work on idea and details.
- Photography Classes –. Venue other than Library and advertising options. Not discussed as Carmelina was not in attendance.
- Easter Egg Painting Partnering with Jenks – need Arts Cttee Lead to work with Alex Taylor. Alex advised that Easter activities were scheduled for April 11th and 12th. He will work with Committee on collaborated event.
- Rock Painting in Spring – Kristi lead. Rte. 34 Gravel to donate rocks. Need to be picked up and cleaned – possibly look to have delivered for minimal cost?
- Murals – Jim lead. Mural on wall next to Train Station – completed – shared on Social Media. Good response. Building behind Joe Leone’s on calendar to be done as well in spring of 2020. Any new murals planned for Jenks? Alex advised he will look into and let us know.
- Paint At Bandshell – Mary Ellen and Penny leads. Will resume when nice weather starts. Advertise on Social Media in Spring. Penny advised she will be away until March/April 2020.
- Ideas for permanent structure to hold “Locks of Love”. Placement of locks on chain link fence on boardwalk at inlet leads to structural issues. Possible location for new structure to be East side of inlet parking lot by new trees. New structure could be cost prohibitive, though given lack of funding available. Keep on Agenda for further discussion.
- Storage of Equipment: Paul advised that work is still in progress on the building.
- Marianne England – invite Chairperson of Metuchen Arts Committee to one of our meetings. Marianne was not in attendance but had previously advised Laurie that she was working to coordinate the date for the invite.
- Website: Christopher Cochran lead, Deb and Carmelina assisting. Christopher was not in attendance but advised that some members were already using Slack with success. Maybe roll out to all members going forward.
- New Business:
- James Dalton said he would like to hold a Spoken Word Festival in 2020 – likely April as that is National Poetry Month. Come up with a name for it and possibly hold it as an annual event. Possibly include creative writing students. If any members had any ideas to add, they should get in touch with James.
- Adjournment: As there was no further New Business or Questions to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 8:45.
