Laurie Vicari, Secretary, recorded the minutes of the meeting.

The Agenda attached as Exhibit A was presented as the format for the meeting.

  • Chairperson’s Report: no report

  • Vice Chairperson’s Report:

Kristi asked the Committee members to look ahead and think about new ideas and events that could take place in 2021.  Also asked that members share Arts Committee events on their own social media pages.

  • Treasurer’s Report:

Kim reported that the Committee’s finances were in good order; we currently were not spending any funds nor were we taking any in.  She advised that once the Homegrown Fair was over, we would have an update.   Kim also advised that we needed to think of fundraising activities so that we could move forward with more mural and downtown gallery installations.

  • Secretary’s Report:

The minutes from the May 2021 were distributed and approved as read by the Committee members.  Laurie also advised that the Board had recently developed a process to be followed when posting an event or graphics on Social Media by Adapting Social as well as a process for mural installations.  She indicated that she would send it out to all Committee members shortly.

  • Past Events and Recap:
  1. April is National Poetry Month – Event planned to ask for submissions as to “Why I love Point Beach”. We received many awesome submissions!

  • Scheduled and Upcoming 2021 “in person” and Virtual Events:
  1. Downtown Gallery – Shower glass door windows, Axiomatic, Lola’s and Everybody’s General done to date. Great feedback from owners and pedestrians!
  2. Canvas Art Bag Class – event to be hosted by Mary Ellen Savage at Coastal Art Co op for 10-15 year olds. Two classes, 5/18 and 5/25 , $30 per ticket, max 8 in each class.    Laurie asked members to share the event on their own Social Media pages.
  3. May Photo Month – event planned “Hit us With your Best Shot” – photo submissions will be accepted with description for their inspiration. Carmelina lead.  Carmelina said that there were more pics on the gallery than what she had received – need to work out with Christopher and Vicki at AS.
  4. Second Home Grown Fair –May 22nd.  Kim advised that she has already received a bunch of applications from vendors.  Working on getting authors.  Will be held same day at Town Sidewalk Sale.  Won’t have Food trucks.  Laurie said she would send out an email asking for volunteers to man the Arts Cttee table.
  5. 100 Shore Things – Melissa Hood collected 100 photos and is painting each of them.  In process and AS is showcasing her work on our social media.  Melissa advised that she was kind of ahead on this – about 75% done at this point.  Also said that everytime she is interviewed about the project she mentions the Arts Committee!
  6. Beach pARTy – Kristi lead – approved date July 22nd. Will close down Bay Ave and incorporate Arnold Ave as well.   Artists will set up in front of stores.  Fallon said she can send out requests to artists to participate through the Gottlieb – Kristi will send her a write up to send out.  Angela asked if artists could be hooked up with store owners, Melissa said it would be possible and even do an artist meet and greet.
  7. Tile Fundraiser – Kim lead – will consist of 2,000 tiles to comprise a work of art.  Each tile will be purchased throughout yearlong events – first dibs to locals and then open up at Seafood Festival to out of towners.  Work in progress.  We would like to use the Food Shack as the installation venue, we need to get permission.  Will update at June meeting.
  8. 2021 Gala – figuring out best course of action to move forward. Advised that the event will be rebranded.

  • Social Media and Website – The Board advised members that Adapting Social has been brought on to handle the Committee’s Social Media and Website. Introduction was made by Paul Kanitra and AS is providing their services to the Committee at a deep discount.  By having AS on board, it takes the heavy lifting off members who previously did this work and frees them up to work on the creative aspects of events and ideas.  Board will send out an email to all members and volunteers outlining the work to be performed by AS..  It should be noted that the lead time for AS to effectively come up with flyers/graphics and to get it on our website is 2 weeks.  As such, events need to be brought to their attention at least 3-4 weeks before they are meant to happen.

  • Murals – Fallon lead.  Fallon reported that there was no update on murals.  Discussion on theme/cohesive look and location.  Fallon mentioned that she had historical postcards and would like to connect them with their buildings.  Mary Ellen Savage is doing the mural for the Rec Building in Pleasure Park.

  • New business –

  1. Kristi and Kim advised that there will be a Homegrown Harvest Festival in the Fall, to be held on October 24th. All Town Committees will work together to hold it.  Activities will include a scarecrow contest – Andrea Bowne suggested a pumpkin carving contest, dog costume contest.  Other suggestions were a Zombie Walk/Vampire Walk to end up at the Gottlieb.  Fallon suggested a Ghost Hunt to find hidden objects.   Lisa Lewis suggested we look at Rise of the Jack o Lanterns – therise.org.
  2. Fallon advised that she will be planning an event with the Rec Committee – Starry Night to be held on June 24 from 7 to 10pm at the Bandshell. Event will have a European market feel.   Canoes in Silver Lake ,live music at the Bandshell, street performers.  Will look to have the Arts Committee involved as well.

  • Adjournment: As there was no further New Business or Questions to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 8:06 pm.
