The meeting was held in the office of Borough Hall and was called to order at 7:05 PM by Chairwoman, Gerrie Vergona.
The following members were in attendance: Gerrie Vergona, Laurie Vicari, Paul Kanitra, Michael Joel, Jim Inzero, Jacqueline De Pasquale, Kristi Monticello, James Dalton, Marisa Gray, Dan Mercuro, Craig Gordon, Brian Papworth, Cathy Jamison.
The following volunteers were in attendance: Holland Paley, Carmelina Carra, Kim Surowicz.
There were no previous meeting minutes to read or approve.
Gerrie reviewed the Committee’s 5-year plan with those in attendance.
The members discussed inventory for possible town owned venues to hold events: Antrim School, High School, Bandshell, Library, Maryland Avenue Beach, Parking lot behind Bordens, Pleasure Park, Baseball Field, Food Shack. Then, some private venues: Axiomic, Green Planet, Just Dough It, Beach Diner, Ocean County Music, Uncle Vinny’s, St. Peter’s Church/Auditorium, Teen Place next to Joe Leone’s. As more venues are thought of or added, a database should be maintained with such.
It was suggested that a gmail account be set up for marketing purposes.
Gerrie asked Sub Committee Chairs to let her know about subcommittee meetings so that she could add them to a calendar.
Then, Sub Committees discussed their topics:
Painting/Sculpture: Jim Inzero – long range vision is to have events that generate crowds as in Asbury Park. Work with local artists to showcase their portfolios.
Children’s Programming: Jackie DiPasquale – maybe have some inclusive events for all children. Gerrie suggested that Jackie provide a list of suggested events that would serve the most people locally, extend to businesses and prioritize. We will run suggestions by Paul to ascertain which the town would approve to hold.
Marketing: Jacke DiPasquale- presented a few logos for the Committee’s review and approval. The attendees reviewed Jackie’s submissions and majority approved a logo to be used going forward.
Fundraising: Joylene Rock (not present) – is heading up the Art gala – need a date on that. Most likely in October.
Theatre/Dance: Marisa Gray and Michael Joel – discussed utilizing outside venues during warm weather months – a Shakespeare in the Park type of event at the Bandshell was suggested.
Grants/Government: Marisa Gray and Michael Joel – are both experienced in working with grants and will move forward in this regard.
Film: Brian Papworth – possibly host a film festival; will bring people into town. Determine venues to hold in and then work forward from there with type of festival, i.e., minute films, short films, festival centric, etc.
Photography: Cathy Jamison – indicated that no progress has been made in this area as of yet. Carmelina Carra, Volunteer, who will be added to the Sub Committee for Photography, suggested that Art Shows include photography or that photography classes be offered to the local public.
Music: James Dalton – will talk to Mike Corona about possible venues to hold music events.
Writing/Poetry: Dan Mercuro – suggested some events such as a creative writing contest, poetry slam events (or a combo) or a workshop. Paul asked Dan to let him know if he thought of something before the next meeting so that maybe something could be arranged in the short term, even a weeknight type of event.
Education Program: Gerrie Vergona advised that it was envisioned to come up with something for all age groups in town.
Finally, Gerrie asked the Sub Committee members and volunteers to try to come up with one event to hold in the mid to end of July. Get a list together and send the ideas to her.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 pm.
The next meeting will be held on July 23, 2018 at 7:00 pm in Borough Hall.
