Point Beach Arts Committee Meeting Minutes
June 14, 2021
The meeting was held at B2 Bistro, 709 Arnold Avenue, PPB and called to order by Vice Chairperson Kristi Monticello at 7:10 pm.
Attendees: The following members and volunteers were in attendance: Laurie Vicari, Kristi Monticello, Kim Allen, Tim Allen, Lisa Lewis, Susan Schaffer, Angela White, Tracey Jackson, Judy van Brunt, Matt Luongo, Mike Langsner, Penny Davies, Molly Kastner, Tim Kelly, Isabella Carannante, Rich Bilotti and Kelly Previte.
Laurie Vicari, Secretary, recorded the minutes of the meeting.
The Agenda attached as Exhibit A was presented as the format for the meeting.
- Chairperson’s Report: no report
- Vice Chairperson’s Report:
Kristi greeted all in attendance and commented how great it was to see everyone in pe4son again! She asked the Committee members to look ahead and think about new ideas and events that could take place in 2021. Kristi gave a shout out to Kim for organizing the successful HomeGrown Fair in May.
- Treasurer’s Report:
Kim reported that finances were the same, no update. She also reported that the Committee took in $750 from the Honegrown Fair.
- Secretary’s Report:
The minutes from May 2021 were distributed and approved as read by the Committee members.
- Past Events and Recap:
- Canvas Tote Bag class – Mary Ellen Savage hosting at Coastal Art Co op. May 18 and May 25 for 10-12 yr olds and 13-15 year olds. $30 per ticket, max 8 in class. Unfortunately, no sign ups for this class. Discussed target audience and suggested that perhaps could be rescheduled for adults.
- May is National Photo Month – Hit Us With Your Best Shot!! Carmelina lead. Event asked participants to submit their photos and describe their inspiration for it along with their bios. Social media event went over very well with many submissions.
- Second Homegrown Fair – Kim lead – held on May 22nd. Lots of great vendors and attendees. Thanks to Kim for organizing and Lisa Lewis for being the photographer for the event.
- Scheduled and Upcoming 2021 “in person” and Virtual Events:
- 100 Shore Things – Melissa Hood to lead and collaborate with local photographers to paint their pictures, culmination at Beach pARTy on July 22nd. Melissa is more than ½ way through the project, it’s been a great arrangement for her and us too.
- Beach pARTy – Kristi lead co hosting with the Chamber. Almost 40 vendor submissions to date. We can team up an artist with a storefront. Chamber coordinated to close down Bay Avenue for event.
- Music Together – Music classes for infants to 5 y/o’s at the BandShell taught by Brenda Limaldi. 6 consecutive Friday’s throughout July to August. No sign ups as of yet.
- Tile Fundraiser – Kim lead – will consist of 2,000 tiles to comprise a work of art. Each tile will be purchased throughout yearlong events – first dibs to locals and then open up at Seafood Festival to out of towners. Kim advised that we have approval to place on the back of the Food Shack building. Melissa Hood will design the mural.
- Homegrown Harvest Fall Festival – tentantive date 10/24. We will focus on after the Beach pARTy.
- 2021 Gala – figuring out best course of action to move forward. Advised that the event will be rebranded. Lots of ideas thrown out at meeting, will discuss further during future meetings.
- Downtown Gallery – Axiomatic was rented and the window panels were removed. Was advised that the Shower Door Gallery, left side, was also rented and those panels would be coming down as well. Can think about more storefronts, but fortunately most are now occupied.
- #POINTmetotheBEACH – new hashtag to be used townwide. Use it whenever posting about Arts Cttee or PPB!
- Social Media and Website – The Board advised members that Adapting Social will be posting all events and notices for the Arts Committee – they require a lead time for events.
- Murals – Mary Ellen Savage is doing the mural for the Rec Building in Pleasure Park. Anyone who is available to assist, please volunteer! New owners of 3G Golf on Arnold Avenue, John and Colleen stopped in at the meeting to introduce themselves and ask about a mural on their building. Tim Kelly was introduced to them and they will discuss going forward. ReMax Building on Bay Avenue will start with mural, which had been planned but was postponed.
- New business –
- Lisa Lewis volunteered to take over as Chair of the photography subcommittee if needed.
She advised that she would also like to add a student portion to the next Juried Art Show, and can contact the local schools in September to discuss further. - Kim advised that the Chamber would like the Arts Committee to sponsor a First Friday in town. Agreed that we would take on the October First Friday.
- Penny Davies said she would like to continue painting at the Band Shell series, but would like someone to co run it with her.
- Adjournment: As there was no further New Business or Questions to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 8:35 pm.

- “100 Shore Things” – Melissa Hood to lead and collaborate with local photographers, demos, social media posts with 100 paintings from April through July and culminating with a final Beach pARTy Art Festival to showcase all 100 artworks as a collection.
- Beach pARTy – Kristi to lead co-hosted with Chamber – Evening Art Festival by the Sea., date is July 22nd with rain date of July 29th.
- Music Together – music classes – parent/child (infant to 5 yrs old) to be held at the BandShell on Arnold every Friday morning for 6 weeks starting July 2. Taught by Brenda Limaldi of Sunny Bee Music.
- Tile Fundraiser – Kim in beginning stages of putting together a fundraiser – tiles to be painted and then digitally displayed at Food Shack. Preliminary discussions for event this summer.
- Homegrown Harvest Fall Festival – to be held October 24. All Town Committees come together to collectively sponsor town event to include scarecrow contest, pumpkin carvings, etc.
- 2021 Gala – look to rebrand and hold in 2022
- Downtown Gallery – Kim working with Christopher and Blazing Visuals for a window mockup for buildings under construction or for lease showcasing winners from JAS as well as local artists. Fisher Family granted to help support costs. Shower Glass door storefront, Axiomatic and Lola’s / Everybody’s General Store completed. Possibly more storefronts in the future. Axiomatic window clients were taken down in preparation for new store opening.
- #POINTmetotheBEACH – new hashtag to be used town wide. Arts Cttee worked with Adapting Social and the Chamber to come up with new hashtag to be used town wide when promoting or talking about PPB.
- Social Media and Website – Working with Adapting Social. All events and notices will be posted by them going forward.
Murals – Preparing for murals to be placed on several locations through PPB. Building in Pleasure Park, Bay Ave storefronts. Will be looking for volunteers to assist with the Pleasure Park mural installation
- New business – ideas for events in 2021 and other business.
