Point Beach Arts Committee Meeting Minutes
January 10, 2022
The meeting was held at the Municipal Building Meeting Room, 416 New Jersey Ave., PPB and called to order by Chairperson Lauren Goldfarb Edwards at 7:10 pm.
Attendees: The following members and volunteers were in attendance: Lauren Goldfarb Edwards, Kristi Monticello, Judy Van Brunt, Kim Allen, Tim Allen, Sheila Soyster, TJ Munley, Tarla Munley
Judy Van Brunt, Secretary, recorded the minutes of the meeting.
The Agenda attached as Exhibit A was presented as the format for the meeting.
- Chairperson’s Report: Lauren welcomed everyone to the first meeting of 2022. She introduced Judy Van Brunt as the new committee secretary.
- Vice Chairperson’s Report: Overview of types of events we’ve held in the past and what kind of help we need from volunteers for future events.
- Treasurer’s Report: Kim reported that the Arts Committee made $245 from the Great Wall WaterColor Print sale so far, and that the inventory was almost sold out. Kim reported that the committee ended the year being under budget putting us in a good financial position to start the year.
- Secretary’s Report: Judy asked that minutes of the November meeting be approved as read and members approved as such.
- Past Events and Recap:
- Happy Holidays – The committee welcomed everyone back after taking the month of December off.
- Great Wall Dedication Event – The event was well attended and well received by everyone in town. So far the Committee has raised $250 so far from sale of the water color print painted by Pauline Mickle.
- #Point me to the Beach Magnet Contest – Winning design chosen and winning artist was Lauren Kurtz
- Scheduled and Upcoming 2022 events:
- Spotlight Artists at Library and Town Hall – Judy updated. The Library has artists displayed through April from the Manasquan River Group of Artists. Sheila Soyster will provide the committee with information so we can help promote this exhibit through the Arts Committee Social Media. Sheila Soyster and Pauline Mickle will kindly display their artwork at the Municipal building starting in February. Judy and Lisa will coordinate with Sheila. We should be noting on our website and sending out social media blasts as well.
- Tile Fundraiser – Kim updated and explained that wood tiles get painted by participants to create a mural which is digitized and displayed. Fabricator is swamped and supplies are low and the cost of wood is high. It is still in the works but will be at a later date.
- Little Free Library – The Committee will work with the Environmental Committee to design and decorate the free book kiosk located on Arnold Ave. The Committee may select someone for the project or reach out to potential artists as a contest on social media.
- #POINTmetotheBEACH Magnet Sales – Seeking pricing from printers for the magnet production. UPrinting was suggested by the Munleys and a sample brochure was passed around. Other suggested businesses were Specialty Graphics, Sticker Mule, All Points. size is a 4×6 oval, die cut. Need to know what type of file is required for graphics. Would like to have magnets to sell at 2/12 Recreation Committee Valentines Event. Kristi to follow-up
- Social Media and Website – Following up with Adapting Social to create new posts and optimization for mobile
- New business:
- PartY By The Sea – AKA the Gala – Rebranding and scheduling for Spring 2023
- 2022 Juried Art Show – Lisa working with Carmelina and talking with Sheila about adding a kid’s category to the virtual JAS.
- 2022 Beach Party Art Festival 7/21 or 7/28. Kristi is teaming up with Melissa Hood to do mini events leading up to the Beach Party
- Fall Homegrown Festival 10/23
- Murals – Pleasure Park mural to resume when weather improves. Seeking other building owners who are interested in having a mural done.
- Refresh Your Palate – Planning to team up to do classes and promote classes at the shop in Point Beach. Will work with the Munley’s to create classes for kids or for the Senior Committee. This can be a fundraiser for the Committee.
- Seeking New Members – Seeking people willing to roll up their sleeves to coordinate, organize and run programs and events. Considering a membership drive through Facebook
- Adjournment: As there was no further New Business or Questions to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 8:20 pm.
