Borough of Point Pleasant Beach Point Beach Arts Committee Meeting Minutes
August 8, 2022
The meeting was held at the Municipal Building Council Meeting Room, 416 New Jersey Ave., PPB and called to
order by Chairperson Lauren Goldfarb Edwards at 7:07 pm.
Attendees: The following members and volunteers were in attendance: Lauren Goldfarb Edwards, Kristi
Monticello, Judy Van Brunt, Dani Roling, Lauren Kurtz, Tracy Jackson, Larry Schwartz, Sheila Soyster, Dave Betten,
Arlene Testa
Judy Van Brunt, Secretary, recorded the minutes of the meeting.
The Agenda attached as Exhibit A was presented as the format for the meeting.
1) Chairperson’s Report: deferred to Vice Chair
2) Vice Chairperson’s Report: Very pleased with the turnout for the meeting. Asked for introductions.
Explained how we’d like to differentiate between voting members and volunteers.
3) Treasurer’s Report: Position is vacant; we need a volunteer
4) Secretary’s Report: A vote that the February, March and April and May and July minutes to be approved was
not taken as there was no quorum.
5) Past Events and Recap:
a) Spotlight Artists at Library and Town Hall – Bob Como’s work is on display through the end of the
month. Joan Tozzi Ablahani will exhibit at Municipal Bldg. for September through November; Sheila
Evans will exhibit December through February.
b) Beach pARTy – Recap: Thanks to everyone who helped out! The Event went smoothly. Rain date may
have affected numbers in attendance. Slight issue with cars needing to be moved after artists were set
up. Suggestion that time be 5 hours instead of 4 and do the event in conjunction with a fireworks night.
Suggested that the music face down the street to be heard by Arnold. It was suggested to promote the
business better we could do a raffle for anyone who presents a store receipt. There was a suggestion to
offer a smaller display space to artists at a lower price.
6) Scheduled and Upcoming 2022 events:
a) Virtual Juried Art Show – Winter 2023. Committee will provide Melissa Hood and Sheila Soyster with
the detailed instructions and both will co-chair this event.
b) Fall Homegrown Festival – Kristi Monticello to be Chairperson. Coordinating with Rec Committee to add
a “Kids Korner”. Little Point Book Store to help with band. Considering working with the Beautification
Committee to expand on the Scarecrow Contest. Judy to contact Ocean County Line Dancing.
c) PartY By The Sea – Spring of 2023. Tracy Jackson to Chair. Looked at a venue option, The Boatyard. May
look at Lobster Shanty. Considering the week before Memorial Day and either a Thursday evening or
Sunday afternoon. Arlene Testa offered to help with this event.
d) Murals – Daryll Monitcello to chair; Jager Lumber has agreed to a mural and Lauren Kurtz will be the
artist. Pleasure park to be completed in the fall.
e) Social Media – Lauren Kurtz offered to help with our social media needs
f) Artist’s registry – Work in progress. Judy to work with Melissa Hood on a format. It was suggested to
handout postcards at events with a QR code link to send in information. Need to research how this is
done.
g) Art Walk – Dave Betten to chair. Dave has researched how these events are run. Dave to reach out to
store owners for input on the event. Considering dates.
7) New business:
a) After Party – Dave Betten suggested an after party event after the “beach pARTy”. This may be
something to consider for future events.
b) Art in the Alley – Arlene discussed this idea of beautifying an alleyway with art.
c) Moon Gate – revisited this addition to a town area. Maybe by the inlet. Approvals and funding needed.
d) Hitching Post Scavenger Hunt – Tracy Jackson suggested an event to identify all the historic hitching
posts in town.
Adjournment: As there was no further New Business or Questions to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 8:32
pm.
