Point Beach Arts Committee Meeting Minutes
 
The meeting was held in the office of Borough Hall and was called to order at 7:00 by Acting Chairperson, Laurie Vicari. 
 
Attendees: The following members and volunteers were in attendance:  Paul Kanitra, Laurie Vicari, Jim Inzero, Amy Alwin (Stella E Luna liaison) Alex Taylor (Jenkinson’s liaison), Kim Allen, Christopher Cochran, James Dalton, Cathy Jamison, Sonya Fisher, Penny Davies,
 
Laurie Vicari, Secretary, recorded the minutes of the meeting.
 
The Agenda attached as Exhibit A was presented as the format for the meeting. 
 

  1.  Approval of previous minutes:

 
Laurie moved, and Christopher seconded approval of the minutes from the July 2019 meeting.  Minutes were approved unanimously. 
 

  1. Treasurer’s Report:

 
The Committee’s Treasurer was not present; the report was not available to discuss.
 
 

  1.  Upcoming Events
  1. Art Sessions at The White Sands – Mary Ellen is lead.  Status of Sessions.   Mary Ellen was not present, but it was acknowledged that this event never got off the ground.     
  2. Photography Classes at PPB Library –    Carmelina is lead.   Carmelina was not in attendance to update, but it was acknowledged that the classes were not being advertised.   
  3. Band Shell Music Series – Mike Corona is lead.  Arts Committee sponsoring August 22nd event.  Third Wave may perform before the show.    
  4. Summer Downtown Music Crawls/Art Crawls – James Dalton lead for music, Cathy Jamison lead for business owner coordination.  It was agreed that for logistical reasons, this event will be tabled till 2020. 
  5. Paint with Us in the Bandshell – Mary Ellen lead, Linda and Penny assisting.   The Ocean Star reporter had spoken with Mary Ellen and Penny, the story will likely run in an upcoming edition.  Hopefully will draw participants.
  6. Murals –   Jim lead for local business, Alex Taylor lead for Jenks Bath house.  Unveiling was held for the mural completed on the Jenks South Bath House on August 5th, several Committee members in attendance.  Mural was named “Beacon of Promise”.  It was agreed by the Committee members that the hashtag #PaintPointBeach would be used going forward on Committee sponsored murals.  Alex advised that Jenks would be happy to sponsor another mural to be painted by Jill going forward.   Jim advised that the next project would be the building behind Joe Leone’s, to be done next year.  Possible other locations for murals in town were discussed – the most promising being the wall by Bay Fuel, by the RR station.  Paul said he would contact the Owner again to ask about availability. 
  7. Rock Painting – Kristi lead.  She was not in attendance but advised Laurie via email that the project would be scheduled for the Fall, once school was back in session. 
  8. Open Mic Nights at Berritazza Cafe – Kristi lead.  She was not in attendance, but advised Laurie via email that these events had not taken place yet due to the rebranding and grand reopening that had recently taken place at the Café. 
  9. Vintage Van Gogh Pumpkin Painting – Sonya lead.  Sonya advised that the event will take place on Saturday, October 12th.  Was previously scheduled for October 19, but moved to the 12th so as not to conflict with Jenkinson’s “Boo on the Boardwalk”.  It will be the same day as the Intercoastal Tug of War, though.  Sessions will cost $20 per adult and $15 per kid.  There will be an adult only session between 4-6; family sessions will take place between 1 – 4.  Christopher will work with Sonya to advertise.   Sonya to hand in project sheet. 
  10. Seafood Festival– have booked with the Chamber to set up an Arts Table.  Need to have a banner made which can be used at this and other events.  Paul will look into.  Postcards to hand out – Kim will look into.  Possibly tShirts and/or Baseball hats with Committee logo for sale.  Get donations from businesses in town to raffle off in Gift Basket.  Need project lead.  Laurie will send out email looking for volunteers to man the table. 
  11. Proposed trip to Gardens for Sculpture – Tracey advised Paul that she is looking into getting quotes for transportation.  Possible date of Sunday, October 20th. 
  12. Flash Mob at Tree Lighting/Caroling – Kristi lead – work in progress.  Will take place on November 29th.  Project sheet not handed in yet.   
  13. Sleigh Trolley Performance/Tour – Marisa will take the lead with Brian Papworth.  Project sheet not handed in yet.    Committee agreed that the trolley should run for 3 days only. 

 

  1. Storage of Equipment:  Discussed storage options for Arts Committee equipment.  Paul advised that in about 1 month we would be able to use the Boro Hall basement for storage. 

 

  1. Website:  Christopher Cochran lead.  Christopher advised he was working on the Committee’s website in addition to working on the PPB Town’s website.  Attendees discussed the importance of having the Committee’s events posted on the website.    Cathy will share templates with Christopher that she used previously on the website. 

 

  1. 2020 Gala – preparation and project leads.  Linda Paterson will Project lead. Co Leads will work alongside with Linda to organize event.  White Sands has agreed to host again for 2020.  Will discuss progress at September meeting as Lead and Co Leads were not in attendance.

 

  1. New Business: 

 

  1. Discussed the important need to bring on a dedicated media person.  Paul was going to look into an intern from Rutgers/Social Media Arts program to assist the Committee. 
  2. Discussed the possibility of having an Arts Committee sign on the Softball Field fence next year.  Suggested having PB Arts Committee signs on lightposts in town. 
  3. Discussed the possibility of having a Fall Movie Night.  Possibly at B2.  Deb Smith does their Social Media. 

 

  1. Adjournment:  As there was no further New Business or Questions to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 8:50.

    1. White Sands Art Sessions (Registration) – Mary Ellen is lead, Linda Paterson assisting.  Status of Sessions.  Has this event ever gotten off the ground?  Should it be struck from event list? 
    2. Photography Classes at PPB Library – Carmelina lead.  Discuss projected attendance and advertising of sessions.  Paul was to contact Cathy Jamison and Deb Smith to advertise going forward.
    3. Band Shell Music Series –  Mike Corona is lead.  Arts Committee is sponsoring August 22 event.  Third Wave to perform before from 6:30 to 7:00?
    4. Summer Downtown Music/Art Crawls –  James has musicians lined up for August 22ndth.  Cathy to coordinate with Business Owners.  An Arts Cttee member needs to take the lead on Art Walk and coordinate.  Project sheets?
    5. Paint With Us at Bandshell – Mary Ellen lead, Linda and Penny assisting.  Takes place Thursdays from 10:00 to 2:00 pm.  Free Event.  Status of attendance?
    6. Murals – Jim lead for mural on Stella E Luna.  Alex Taylor and Jim coordinating mural on Jenk’s South Bath House.  Unveiling for Bath House  was held August 5th, advertised in Ocean Star.  Any other murals planned?
    7. Rock Painting – Kristi lead, to advise on progress.
    8. Open Mic Nights at Berritazza Cafe – Kristi lead.  Will start June 26th, every Wednesday through the summer.  Free event.
    9. Vintage Van Gogh pumpkin painting – Sonya lead.  Date set for October 12th. Cost will be $20 per adult $15 for kids.  Family session to take place between 1:00 and 4:00, adult session between 4:00 and 6:00.  Need to advertise. Sonya to hand in project sheet.
    10. Seafood Festival – Arts Committee arranged to have a table at the Festival.  Need volunteers to man it.  Cost was $175. Need to appoint a project lead person.
