Point Beach Arts Committee Meeting Minutes
 
The meeting was held in the office of Borough Hall and was called to order at 7:00 by Chairwoman, Gerrie Vergona. 
 
Attendees: The following members and volunteers were in attendance:  Gerrie Vergona, Paul Kanitra, Laurie Vicari, Barbara Russell, Kristi Monticello, Cathy Jamison, Marisa Gray, Kim Allen, Jim Inzero, Jackie Di Pasquale, Carmelina Carra, James Dalton, Tracey Jackson, Sonya Fisher.
 
Laurie Vicari, Secretary, recorded the minutes of the meeting.
 
The Agenda attached as Exhibit A was presented as the format for the meeting. 
 

  1.  Approval of previous minutes:

 
Laurie moved, and Gerrie seconded approval of the minutes from the March 2019 meeting.  Minutes were approved unanimously. 
 

  1. Treasurer’s Report:

 
Marianne England was not in attendance, however, it was reported that the Endowment Fund had $2,610 in balance at the current time.  There was still $2,245 waiting to be deposited from the silent auction held at the Gala, $850 of which Kristi had collected.  Sold approximately 120 tickets for gala. 
 

  1. Recap of gala:

 
Cathy read off the responses from the survey that was sent to attendees after the Gala, which were returned by 23 attendees.  The Committee members present put forth their thoughts on what worked at the March 30 and what should be worked on Gala and the next gala, respectively.  Preparations for the 2020 Gala should begin shortly. 
 

  1. Upcoming Events:

 

  1. Original Music Concert at Ocean County Music – Concert set for Saturday, April 13th.  Arts Committee also promoted on our website.  Cathy will provide Mike Corona with a promotional template for events to use going forward.
  2. Art Show reception – scheduled at the White Sands on Thursday, April 18th.  Gerrie advised that at the reception, the PBA will be giving out ribbon awards to the winners of the Juried Art Show.  In addition, a “People’s Choice” winner will be named.  Christopher needs to set up link on PBA website for people to vote on their favorite work of art that was submitted for the Juried Art Show. 
  3. Art Session Registration – Begins on May 18th.  White Sands has agreed to hold Art Sessions by their outside pool and in inclement weather to hold them indoors.  Gerrie indicated that she had a few artists who were interested, but another Member needs to take the lead to schedule the artists and coordinate with Christina at the White Sands.  The White Sands would also help to promote the sessions. 
  4. Bike In – date set for Friday, May 31st (Friday after Memorial Day) to be held at the High School Athletic Field.   Kim is the lead for this event. Need to decide on possible rain date.  Need to decide on the movie to be shown. Some suggestions were E.T. or Back to the Future.  Start time will be around 8:00 to ensure that it is dark enough.  The event will be promoted as being “family friendly”.  Paul confirmed that the town’s insurance could be used for this event.  Paul also advised that he will let the Police Department know that the event is going to take place.   
  5. Band Shell Series/ Summer Downtown Music Crawls/Art Crawls – James advised that all dates for the Band Shell Series are booked; will take place on Thursday evenings between 7:00 and 9:00, before the Fireworks.  Cathy will coordinate with business owners to schedule a Summer Downtown Music Crawl for one night during the summer (July or August).  It was agreed that it should also include an Art Crawl.  Could have High School musicians or James advised that some of his musician friends might be willing to play pro bono.  Cathy and James need to coordinate schedule and participants for the Music Crawl.  A Member needs to take the lead on the Art Walk and coordinate. 
  6. Summer Stock in the Band Shell:  Marisa indicated that that she is making contacts for this and will discuss at the next meeting. 
  7. Art in the Gazebo – Gerrie advised that if she starts this event and is no longer living locally, another Member will have to take it over. 
  8. Murals –   Jim advised that he had secured Mario Robinson, who is an Exhibiting Artist Member (EAM) of The National Arts Club, an Artist Member of The Salmagundi Club and a Signature Member of The Pastel Society of America, and whose work has been featured several times in The Artist's Magazine, The Pastel Journal, Watercolor Magic, American Art Collector, Fine Art Connoisseur and on the cover of American Artist magazine,  to paint a mural on Stella E Luna. Additionally, in the February, 2006 issue of The Artist's Magazine, Mario was selected as one of the top 20 realist artists under the age of 40.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario_Robinson   Mario is asking Winsor Newton to supply the paint and he will paint the mural at no charge.  Carl from Borden’s has also indicated he is interested in painting his building.  Cathy said that Jenkinson’s has also advised that they would be interested in having the Bath House and Badge Huts that they purchased from Risden painted.  Sonya indicated that she would be interested in the Bath House or Badge Hut project as she and her mother are muralists.  Cathy should work with Sonya regarding the Jenkinson mural project. 
  9. Rock Painting – Kristi advised that she will take this project back up now that the Gala work has been completed. 
  10. Summer and Fall Bike In – 2 more tentative for July and September/October – Tracey to work on details.  Maybe the summer one to take place on the beach. 
  11. Open Mic Nights at Amazon Fruit Bowls – Kristi advised that she will take this project back up now that the Gala work has been completed.  James suggested Wednesday night as a good night to hold these types of events. 
  12. Flash Mob at Tree Lighting/Caroling – will take place on November 29th.  Will discuss at future meetings.  Kristi will take the lead.
  13. Sleigh Trolley Performance – Will discuss at future meetings.  Marisa will take the lead with Brian Papworth.

Cathy advised that she had handed much of the website design and work over to Christopher, and that he could use some assistance with the website updates and maintenance.  Carmelina offered to assist and it was agreed that continuance of this discussion would take place offline.  Members were advised that the Lead of each event was to get that event’s information into Cathy and she would work with Christopher and Carmelina to get it listed on the website. 
 

  1. As there was no further New Business or Questions to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 9:05.
