  • Secretary’s Report:

Laurie reported that meeting minutes were not taken at the March 2021 meeting, so no minutes to approve this month.

  • Past Events and Recap:
    1. Sham-Rock Event – March 13th from 12pm – 2pm – Arts Committee participated in St. Patty’s Day event with all township committees hosted by Gottlieb/Fallon.  It was reported that almost 400 people attended this event; town committees will look to co-sponsor more events in the future.

  • Scheduled and Upcoming 2021 “in person” and Virtual Events:
  1. Downtown Gallery –Two storefronts have been completed with window clings showcasing winners of the Juried Art Show and a local artist. Christopher Cochran did the graphics and Blazing Visuals produced and installed the window clings.  Fisher Family Foundation provided grant $$ for the material and labor.  Kim will reach out to owners of Lola’s and Everybody’s to gauge their interest in the next display.
  2. April is National Poetry Month – Event planned to ask for submissions as to “Why I love Point Beach”. Some submissions received to date, asked that the event be shared by all members.
  3. Poetry thru Art – event postponed ( Mary Ellen Savage kid’s art classes) and will be re themed so as to better coordinate with Adapting Social for effective advertising.
  4. May Photo Month – event planned “Hit us With your Best Shot” – photo submissions will be accepted with description for their inspiration. Carmelina lead – AS processing flyer and website management.
  5. Second Home Grown Fair –May 22nd.  Kim advised that she has already received a bunch of applications from vendors.  Working on getting authors.  Will be held same day at Town Sidewalk Sale.
  6. 100 Shore Things – Melissa Hood collected 100 photos and is painting each of them.  In process and AS is showcasing her work on our social media.
  7. Beach pARTy – Kristi lead – proposed date July 22nd. Will close down Bay Ave and incorporate Arnold Ave as well.   Artists will set up in front of stores.  Waiting for county approval.
  8. Tile Fundraiser – Kim lead – will consist of 2,000 tiles to comprise a work of art.  Each tile will be purchased throughout year long events – first dibs to locals and then open up at Seafood Festival to out of towners.  Work in progress.
  9. 2021 Gala – figuring out best course of action to move forward.

  • Social Media and Website – The Board advised members that Adapting Social has been brought on to handle the Committee’s Social Media and Website. Introduction was made by Paul Kanitra and AS is providing their services to the Committee at a deep discount.  By having AS on board, it takes the heavy lifting off members who previously did this work and frees them up to work on the creative aspects of events and ideas.  Board will send out an email to all members and volunteers outlining the work to be performed by AS and the lead time needed by them to effectively collect information and post to Social Media and on our Website.

  • Murals – Fallon lead.  It was reported that the artist that did the mural on Casa de Mar approached the Committee to offer his services, in exchange for a few days or so of room and board during the summer for he and his wife.  Working on details to facilitate and pick mural site(s) and content as he is open to do multiple murals.

  • New business –

  1. Penny advised that she will be talking to Mary Ellen Savage regarding starting 2021 Painting at the Bandshell. Will keep us updated on progress.
  2. Penny suggested that like the snow man contest, some butterfly cut outs, perhaps on stakes could be arranged. Maybe stake in the flower buckets on the street.
  3. The area between Stella e Luna and Haven’s Sweet Shoppe was brought up as an area for redevelopment. Fallon advised that she had a sculpture artist who could be interested in placing a Lighthouse Keeper type sculpture in the garden area.  Michael of Haven’s said he would be interested in this area’s redevelopment as well, possibly adding a bench.  The Board advised that they have already been in talks with Jim Inzero regarding this parcel.  Jim said he has a vision in mind where a butterfly garden could be installed, in line with the murals on the Stella e Luna and his gallery buildings.  He said he would provide us with his plans, but we have not received anything to date.
  4. Fallon advised that she will be planning an event with the Rec Committee – Starry Night to be held on the first day of summer 2021. Event will have a Renaissance era feel.   Canoes in Silver Lake (environmental concerns still pending), live music at the Bandshell, street performers.  Will look to have the Arts Committee involved as well.

  • Adjournment: As there was no further New Business or Questions to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 8:04 pm.
