Mayor Vogel: extended best wishes for Happy, Safe and Prosperous 2007; chance for a new beginning; great deal of accomplishments last year – approved 48 ordinances, hosting a wide range of issues from a residential parking pass program to registry of our hotel guests to creating an Open Space Fund, Shade Tree Commission and Recycling Task Force; when interviewed by Washington Post remarked that Trenton should be more like Point Pleasant Beach – with split Governing Body we were able to introduce a budget, on time, which was fiscally sound, without shutting down local government – maybe its communities like Point Pleasant Beach that truly have all the answers; we’re fortunate enough to live in a special community with volunteers that give of themselves and serve our community in a host of different ways; look forward to continuing momentum from last year into 2007 – hope that everyone continues to stay focused – have a simple job to do, must all work together to make Point Pleasant Beach better; must preserve those little ‘uniquities’ that make Point Pleasant Beach special; today’s headlines are nothing but tomorrows footnotes – we will be remembered and judged by what we’ve done to make Point Pleasant Beach better – simple task which requires a great deal of effort, foresight and sometimes fortitude – sometimes make decisions which are not always the most popular, but they are the right decisions; look forward to serving with Council in 2007 – am proud to be here today and proud to serve to make Point Pleasant Beach even better than it is today.

Councilman Mercun: thanked residents for giving him the opportunity to serve the people of the town he lives in – job is simple and just about doing the right thing – Judge Turnbach taught me that and I only hope I can live up to the standards he set.

Councilman Loughran: congratulated everyone who was sworn in today; lot of business to take care of in this town – as former Mayor Hennessy used to say, this is the busiest small town in the State of New Jersey; last year, 47 out of 48 ordinances were voted on unanimously by a split party government – worked well together and did what was best for the residents of our town; look forward to serving with current Council -proud to serve and proud to be here.

Councilman Corbally: wished a Happy Anniversary to his wife and invited all to Lobster Shanty for celebration; last year was special with bi-partisan Council and all that was achieved – looking forward to that again this year.

Councilman DiCicco: excited about this year and honored by being elected Council President; have very ambitious legislative program planned for this year – will be focusing on re-zoning and dealing with environmental protection issues, including our lakes and trees; addressing Construction Code and Public Works Departments to make sure their enforcement and work is well done and we are proud of what we can accomplish through those two departments; welcomed Councilmen Mercun and Dixon; will be busy passing ordinances – before any 1st reading of ordinances, this year, will be vetting them to the public – want maximum public participation in everything we do – public, in Point Pleasant Beach, is incredibly well-informed and has excellent ideas; look forward to working in a bi-partisan fashion.

Councilman Dixon: thanked all who voted for him; people of Point Pleasant Beach have given us a big responsibility – look forward to working with everybody and will do the best we can.

Councilman DiCorcia: blessed to begin serving my 20th year on the Governing Body; good isn’t good enough when we can become better and we will become better; each and every day we strive to do the very best we can and hope you will believe in us.

Father Curt Kreml of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church gave the Benediction.

The meeting was adjourned at 12:22 p.m.

Attest: Maryann Ellsworth, Municipal Clerk
