Large Flags – The DPW has taken down flags and they are stored at the public works building because of the water problems at borough hall basement. Andy will follow up about when the basement will again be available.
Small Flags – Gary indicated that we don’t have enough small flags for next year and will not purchase replacements until there are enough volunteers to put them up. Maryann indicated that her husband is fully qualified to drive the bucket truck from his previous work experience. Issue will be addressed again at January meeting.
.
Sandy’s Point – Will look to installing plaque for Marie Pfister’s tree assuming it surveys the winter ok..
.
Scarecrow contest – Scarecrow flyer sent out, $500 has been budgeted for prizes, set up is Oct 19, voting at the Oct 23 meeting.
Rotary Club – Jacqui Reid to do thank you presentation for their donation. Money to be used for flags and flag hardware.
Memorial Park Bench proposal – If people would like to put benches at our garden spots, they should
have a consistent look and should be requested through Karen Mills. They are made from a composite material by the current vendor of choice. Andy to make a list of problem benches in our spots for repair and cleaning.
Christmas Decorations – Barrel greens were ordered by Jacqui Glass in line with last year’s amount per Gary. Jacqui will also make bows for the barrels . Forty garlands made need twenty four made. Need to purchase additional garland to complete.
Code enforcement sent out letters to town businesses about taking care of their properties. If we have problem contact the co-chairs.
Bayhead Beautification has asked for some suggestions for a garden spot near the Bay Head train station. Penny and Jacqui Reid agreed to meet with them and will send out email for anyone else interested when a date and time is arranged.
Penny presented award received from her submission to the Philadelphia Horticultural Society in the public space section (three hundred gardens) and we were selected as the winner for 2018. Award will be presented Nov 17, Mary Lynn and her husband will attend, Andy to present to council and Penny to notify Ocean Star.
Bad news, lights out on Parkway due to cut cable and will impact the garden with the proposed retrenching for the cables. Have options of abandoning, hiring a landscaper to replace or try to save it. Andy believes there is alternate method not requiring trenching for the repair to save the garden. It was suggested that a letter be sent to Mayor and Council about our concerns.
