Borough of Point Pleasant Beach Beautification Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM by Gary Mecca
The following members were in attendance: Mary Steiner, Dave Cavagnaro, Gary Mecca, Penny Mecca,
Angela Fioretti, Jacqui Reid, Sue Dietz, Barbara Favato, Mary Lynn Ritchings, Beth Cox Sandy Pasola,
Dorothy Hadley, Andy Cortez
Minutes – Sandy moved and Jacqui Reid seconded approval of last meetings minutes. Approved
unanimously
Flower order – Things went very well Seamar vincas seemed to be in better condition than Barlows. May
make sense switching all vincas to Seamar based on quality and additional plants per flat at a lower price.
Mandivilla’s from Seamar were climbing type and Barlow were bush variety will look to see if there are
preferences for next year. Will need to get flower order in by end of December to give best chance for early
receipt. All indicated they could probably have ideas for requirements in September.
Barrels –Gary indicated that he is in charge of barrels, Jacqui is responsible for gardens. Broadway barrels
had liners and water wells installed to save efforts to keep them hydrated. He bought fertilizer to support
barrels. Looking for someone to distribute.
Adopt a spot barrels. Angela had talked to then about what to plant but nothing has been done and she will
talk to them again
Garden Spots – Contact Jacqui if you need mulch. Mary to send thank you note to Cathy Barcus for
repainting the birdhouses at the horse shoe.
Large Flags – Have used all available installation hardware, hope nothing breaks as there are no
replacements. Some of new flags appear to be faded on one side. Gary will discuss with supplier if
reordering.
Small flags – Gary and Andy to try to get them installed on Arnold Ave before Memorial day using the bucket
truck.
Sandy’s Point – Light and electrical have been lowered as requested. Gary is currently watering the Marie
Pfister tree. Sprinklers still need to be fixed.
Boro Hall sprinklers are not working. Gazebo sprinklers are turned off until the finish repairing steps.
Some displeasure expressed with sprinkler company. Andy to look into situation.
Christmas Decorations – Wreaths to be the same as last year and the two Jacquis will talk about changing the
bows. Barbara and Angela agreed to help Jacqui. Discussion held about length required and available
garland and it was determined more is needed..
Mary brought up about several tree that should be taken down (Bay ave by parking lot entrance and by
Gazebo). Andy to follow up on this. .
Member of the public brought up that the Gazebo needed painting badly, now that the steps are being
attended to.
