Upon motion by Sandy, with second by Mary Lynn, the minutes of the January 24, 2021 meeting were unanimously approved as read.
Committee Chair Mary Steiner: announced that Dave Cavagnaro had resigned after twenty years on the committee and thanked him for all his years of service.
Committee Chair Mary Steiner reported that barrels, and garden assignments were needed to replace people not available to handle last years assignments.
Barrels – Karin Magala and Chesla Wechsler will takeover the four barrels at Rt35 south and Atlantic Ave (Hoffman’s and Jersey Mike’s). Danielle Dolan will join with Jacqui Glass handling the six barrels on Broadway. Depending on where Mary Hoffman may be living may need to have someone for Arnold and Ocean and helping at the butterfly garden for the urns.
Gardens- To replace Dave Cavagnaro are Lou Vasellotti and Barbara Palombo at the War Memorial/Band Shell and helping Maryann Ellsworth at Boro Hall will be Arlene Testa and Chesla Wechsler.
MaryLynn presented information on self watering planters to be acquired to replace the barrel
in the down town area. There was much discussion concerning comparative sizes of the two
different planters, about the weight and “movability” and other features. It was agreed that the
Sandstone color would probably be best but that there should be a vote to include all members
to be returned by Friday for either the Urban 31 or Rolled Rimmed design. Once this is
determined, Mary Lynn will proceed with processing a Fisher Family Fund request for the 32
planters and the potting mixture required for the self watering functionality.
Regarding the balance of winter activities, Mary Steiner reported that she spoke with Caryn Byrnes and Arlene about keeping the garland up through February. Volunteers will be needed to take down the garland and put it into the Borough Hall basement . Mary noted she will not be able to help due to impending surgery.
Fallon Schultz presented ideas concerning Sham Rock an initiative from Gottliebs generating down town interest. Trying to get streets shut down either 3/20 or 3/13, have entertainment and have community involvement, idea floated was to decorate barrels in the Arnold and Bay historic area. Look at inexpensive things from Dollar store and such.
Public participation was opened and closed with no member of the public participating.
Meeting adjourned at 8:32 pm upon motion by Alan and second by Sandy.
Respectfully Submitted,
Alan Steiner for Maryann Ellsworth
