Beach Replenishment update from the US Army Corp of Engineers:
Attention Residents:
On January 20, 2017 the Army Corps of Engineers (Corps), Philadelphia District, issued a Notice to Proceed to Weeks Marine Inc. for the construction of the Manasquan Inlet to Barnegat Inlet Storm Damage Reduction Project (Project).
Construction of the Project within the Borough of Point Pleasant Beach is anticipated to begin the second week of April. The construction process consists of beach and dune construction, in a 1,000-foot rolling work area, with that work anticipated to be completed approximately May 19, 2019. Subsequent work includes construction of public dune crossovers, fencing of the landward and seaward dune toes and vegetating the dune (November 2019 is the start of the next planting window).
In preparation for construction, the Corps and the contractor have field located the Contractor Work Limit (CWL), which is the landward limit of the storm damage reduction easement. The contractor and the Borough Engineer identified and marked the CWL on any structures that fall seaward of the CWL within the Project footprint. These structures need to be removed to facilitate Project construction. It is highly recommended the property owner remove these structures within the Project footprint no later than April 12, 2019.
If the property owner does not remove the structure within the Project work limit prior to the start of construction, the contractor will either remove and dispose of the portion of the structure east of the CWL or bury that portion, if the Corps allows, during construction of the Project. Upon completion of the Project, property owners have the right to construct a private dune overwalk structure in accordance with the terms of the relevant easement.
The Division of Coastal Engineering (DCE) will be assisting the Borough in the upcoming weeks with the coordination of removal if necessary. Should you have any questions, please contact Ray Savacool, Point Pleasant Beach Municipal Engineer, at 732-473-3400 or rsavacool@tandmassociates.com or DCE Project Manager, Kelley Staffieri, at 732-255-0767 or Kelley.staffieri@dep.nj.gov.
