Outfall Station Reconstruction at Maryland Ave Beach

Please see letter below regarding project information & scheduling:

Dear Residents:

In a joint meeting on Wednesday, May 16th, attended by the County of Ocean, Department of Environmental Protection, Army Corps of Engineers and representative from the Borough, we were informed that reconstruction of the outfall station on Maryland Avenue had to be completed in advance of the beach replenishment project scheduled for late this fall, and that the reconstruction would begin immediately.

All construction work and vehicle access was scheduled to be from Philadelphia Avenue, south to Maryland Avenue. Aware of the hardship this would place on property owners in the affected area, the Borough gave permission to allow the contractor to access the beach from the Maryland Avenue street end instead. This will involve the demolition of the existing stairs and bulkhead, dune, and vegetation in that area. The access for the initial phase of this project, which has already begun, will be from Philadelphia Avenue, until the demolition of the Maryland Avenue street end is complete. The tentative schedule is as follows:

May 21st to May 31st: Mobilization and delivery of the cofferdam sheeting. This will involve drop off at Philadelphia Ave, and transfer of the materials to Maryland Avenue via trucks along the beach.

May 29th to May 30th: Delivery of the crane to arrive in four sections at Philadelphia Avenue, and moved to Maryland Avenue via trucks along the beach. The crane will be assembled at Maryland Avenue.

Early June: Installation of the cofferdam at Maryland Avenue, and delivery of the pipes (20-23) for the outfall station. Pipes will be dropped at Philadelphia Avenue, and transferred via trucks along the beach, over a series of days. This is proposed to be the last of the activity from Philadelphia Avenue.

Late June through August: Demolition of the street end at Maryland, and construction of the new outfall station. This will involve the demolition and removal of the existing structure via trucks through Maryland Avenue. Reconstruction of the new outfall station, which will include multiple cement truck deliveries, through Maryland Avenue to the construction site. All fuel deliveries and servicing of the port-o-johns will be through Maryland Avenue, and all construction parking at an off-site location.

The Governing Body made every effort to have this project delayed until after the summer season, however our requests were not honored by the Department of Environmental Protection and the Army Corps of Engineers. The State, through eminent domain has acquired all necessary real estate for the entire project.
